Looking for any suggestions after a disappointing, for me, sprint at the weekend. The car is a standard 225, not lowered or any othe mods, totally standard but, the understeer was just ruining my times. Tried different tyre pressures, ultimately ending up with lower front to rear pressure. Having said all that, this was the first time in a competition with car and the first time back after a 4 year layoff, so maybe that has to be accounted for also. What I am asking is any basic mods that have been tried and tested, not try this, it might work. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm using Accelera 651 sport EXTRA soft compound tyres. I found the tyres to be really good. Yes to LSD as it does not have one at the moment. Lowering?
I'm new to this car, and FWD having come from BMW and life in Canada, so I know nothing about this car and the aftermarket support. Where and which brands should i be looking for, because I too think more camber would help with understeer, all of my track experience has involved adjustable camber plates.
A couple of things to be aware of - helped me in my decision to go from stock to KW clubsports with adjustable camber plates camber plates are best option - excentric bushes are a waste of time. make sure you get camber plates that fit your struts ie spring diameter to be specific. Coilovers have smaller diameter springs than stock struts. consider if you will fit coilovers in the future? If so buying camber plates now for stock struts would be a waste. Suggest moving straight to coilovers with camber plates. My RS250 had 130k km when I purchased it - dampers were shot at these km's so made sense to go to coilovers. Be aware that the quality of the top bearing on the camber plate is very important - cheap coilovers/camber plates will develop a knock after only a few "street" kms Regarding recommendation, I've only used those supplied by KW - but they have lasted well with no knock etc after 2+ years, albeit low km's as the car is predominately a track car. Also better to get first hand recommendations for other manufacturers - ie folks that have actually fitted/ued them as opposed to hearsay. Unless you want to change camber settings frequently, in hindsight I don't think I needed to enlarger strut tower hole; for the KW the graduations are accurate, and if no previous chassis damage you can calculate setting. That said I don't use the car a lot on the street, hence running high camber isn't an issue for me regarding tyre wear. I found the following sites/post useful when I was getting up to speed on suspension mods for my RS250 https://rsmegane.com/threads/how-to-adjust-the-camber-with-top-mount.19243/ https://rsmegane.com/threads/adjustable-front-top-mounts.19008/#post-195491 https://rsmegane.com/threads/negative-camber-solution.12604/ https://www.ozrenaultsport.com/topic/32852-mr-kidd/ http://www.meganers.fr/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=43929&start=80 http://www.meganers.fr/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=43929&start=200 https://rsmegane.com/threads/kw-clubsport-fitting-alignment-query.17237/ Cannot comment on how good they are but, this was an option I was considering if staying with stock struts https://www.compbrake.com/product/r...p-cap-pair-ultimate-3-piece-fully-guaranteed/ Hopefully other members have some experience???
