  1. Chris at EFI or Andy at engine dynamics, I had the same experience as Ian, mine was showing over 40bhp down, and was miles nicer after Chris mapped it. Andy at engine dynamics has mapped it this time after it getting forged and it runs / pulls really nicely.

Renault valves are two piece and are joined together by heat, the ones i have fitted are one piece (Supertec) so there is less chance of breaking due to heat cycles, although the car that my engine came out of was involved in an accident.
When i was trying to get the head rebuilt or replaced, i was told it was quite a common problem with the valves breaking.

Also the valve springs are not very strong, so there is a possibility of valve float at high rpm's and the valve touching the piston.

Car at the time was running 305hp

  3. It does sound like you were quite unlucky with that build Ian!

Expensive lessons learnt on many fronts.

Interesting about being so down on power compared to RS tunings dyno. I went to a meet there nearly 10 years ago (diesel power) and we were all around 20bhp+ down on that dyno compared to others.

  4. Yes I read somewhere else that the F4R Valves are weak.

    Nice that you upgrade them.

I was sort of lucky, i didn't forge the engine before this happened, i would have left it as it was if it hadn't done this

it seems that the f4r engine is not that well built for big horsepower then. everything has got to be upgraded your better of upgrading valves and l that while your there save going back twice.

and that was a 250 engine and not the original 225 lump, that caused so much damage to the bore it only just took out the damage with full size over pistons

Engine had done less than 40k miles

  8. Oh Shit, that looks very very bad.

  9. Update:

My gauge wasn't working properly, at full Gas it show only 3/4 fuel. The pump fits only one way so it couldn't be a mistake there.

So if someone else is troubling there:

The problem was the sender, meaning the thing which swimming and sends his signal to the gauge. It was one bracket too left mounted at the ring.

Maybe a photo show it better what I mean.

I mount it one bracket too right. (on the picture it is how it should be / its original there)

It's "just" 130 miles from me, but there was nothing. Nothing meaning really not even one soul at the Track or the highway...

More good news for you as your in Germany, the Nurburgring is opening from the 30th April, they are going to see how it goes, they might close it again if people don't adhere to there rules.

Maybe a good thing to test my tune than :tearsofjoy: but need to fix my driveshafts first they start to make noises in corners

  16. Hi ian i ran supertec valves in my 2nd r26 spoke to ian at pec who sold them to me an the supertec valves are also 2 piece but super strong an if they brake in proper use then supertec will foot the bill for damages

  17. Sorry break ‍♂️

Are you sure, i thought they said there one piece, but if they cover the damage then all's okay

  19. Yup i was under the same impression forged valves in my mind equal 1 piece but ian at pec/supertec set me straight then reassured me bought them loved them ment to be a bastard to lap in according to the guy who did mine, also while im sharing to avoid the aux belt wrapping around the bottom pulley i use a 172 lightened bottom pulley an 4pk806sf belt an go straight to the alternator delete all the other rotational parts an keeps it simple worked a treat for me

I had that happen on my 225 after i rebuilt it, lasted about 30 miles, bent ever last supertec valve, so had to order another set :cry::cry::cry:

Well as long as there better than the Renault fitted ones, i'm happy :sunglasses:

  21. I wish i never said that now as ive just bought a mint 1 owner r26 thats bog standard with low miles an im determined to keep it stock for future value all my mates laughed an give me a week
Much better than stock imo an I read that pal brought a tear to my eye, i drove my forged r26 with no music on for weeks listening for odd noises babied it round till it hit 500 miles then kicked the shit out of it some say the break in with todays forged parts is rubbish an you can hammer it after its heat cycled an ive seen that done but my mind wont let me do that

  22. im looking at forged parts for my stock "not getting modded" r26 now ian cheers pal ‍♂️

Mine was a silly piece of sound deadening right at the front chassis member on the drivers side, it obiously flapped around and got caught in the aux belt, flicked over one or two groves, shredded the edge of the belt and it got in behind the cover and wrapped around the bottom pulley, never broke the belt it just slipped :rage:

You know you were going to do it, don't give us that "i'm keeping it standard" waffle :laughing:

  25. id of burned it probably, the guy i bought my new one off said the aux belt wouldnt be changed with the cambelt as it looked new on the advice of his mechanic i told him otherwise so its being done now even in good nick its not worth the risk an your just the very unlucky exception that would give me nightmares

  26. Its staying standard i know a guy with standard mk1 an mk2 escorts im gonna be like him probably

I had a lot of problems with it, i bought a low mileage engine out of a smashed car (250), wasn't going to spend the money on forging the engine as it would have been strong enough for what i wanted, had it mapped, ran a big end bearing at Thruxton, dropped a valve at Spa, then forged it, fitted a hybrid turbo remapped it, turbo got damaged, hybrid turbo self destructed and that was the end of that car.

Following day bought the Mk3 :laughing:

I'll give it a month

  29. I dont give it that long ‍♂️ an that seems it was doomed from the word go pal me an my best mate built mine pissed stock big end bearings didnt remove the crank so original mains, woosners, pec rods, supertec valves an everything else stock r26r clutch solid flywheel homemade induction kit, winner racing intercooler same as forge but cost 140 notes,630's an a kinugawa td04l19t all done on a shoe string budget an it made great power 367bhp an 360lbft jay at revlimit mapped it an i gave it death daily an never had an issue people knocked the chinacharger but it was epic an still going strong today

Those Chinese turbo's either are good or last 10 minutes.
I didn't want to go down the hybrid again, so went for a proper one, its all in here https://rsmegane.com/threads/fitting-a-different-turbo.20167/

  31. This is the blower i used its bigger internally an externally than any stock meg turbo which is why i used it plus it was only 300 notes at the time with the actuator an dv flowed really well an even had midland turbo check it over an they gave it a thumbs up

I don't have that problem, if i spend my money on my car my Mrs knows were i am, in the workshop :laughing::laughing: or on a trackday :sunglasses:

  34. My problem is i like to try other cars an she gets attached to them then i sell them so she gives me shit the last was a range rover sport i swapped my black r26 for she loved that car so hates the new meg even though she loved the last ones an loves going fast :tearsofjoy:
