Hi all, So a long story short, my brembos jammed on and cooked a caliper and damaged the rubber on the ball joints. I've replaced the wishbone, the top and bottom ball joints and abs cable with pattern parts. The calipers have been refurbished and refitted with new discs and pads. New genuine renault track rod arm fitted. Brakes all bleed profesionally at the abs pump, so dramas there. Tracking was all done yesterday at my local F1 auto centre. The problems: - the handling isnt quite right. Under acceleration it pulls to the left, and when you take your foot off the accelerator it pulls back to the right. Its not a big pull, but noticeable. - the traction control is now overly sensitive, but only when turning left. Any hard turn left and the TC kicks in instantly, but not when turning hard right. Before I start firing the parts cannon at it, is this likely down to the pattern parts? I suspect I'll end up buying all genuine renault stuff and do it all again, but thought I'd get the thoughts of the collective first
If its pulling one way on acceleration and the other on braking, then i would say its the anti-twist links that need replacing. This could also be the problem with the traction control, also make sure your tire pressures are right.
Pressures are good, but i did wonder about the anti twist links, so i have a pair on order and will replace them regardless when they turn up. It was suggested that the bolts that hold the wishbone in place may not be tight enough, which I'll check even though they were done up FT! Appreciate the input, and its along the lines of what I was thinking may be a cause. The traction control kicking in has,got ridiculous now.....and left hand sweeping corners, the TC instantly kicks in, and tbh, the front end feels more skittish than it did before.
I had exactly the same issue shortly after I got my RS250 a few years ago. Happened after car yard where I got the car replaced one strut/perfohub assembly under warranty. Unfortunately they left off the tapered bush (was left in the old hub, and replacement hub didn't have one) that locates the steering tie rod ball joint onto the hub. I eventually sorted it by the fact that if I tightened the tie rod ball joint nut it was good for a while, then loosened after a week or so. The tapered bush stops it loosened with the rotating steering action Also subsequently found this link with similar problem - so it might be the reason you are having issues too https://rsmegane.com/threads/track-rod-end-part-missing.16929/#post-217148
I replaced the track rod end with gen renault parts, but dont recall seeing this bush stuck on it. Sent the whole perfo thingy to my local engineering shop to press out and in the new swivel joints.....I wonder if its come adrift then? Right, I'll get it up in the air now and have a look! If it is missing, thats gonna be a pickle as theyre not available separately and the guy who was selling them on ebay onthe linky you attached, now doesnt exist. Ill have a lookad see! Appreciate the info
Thats the inside of whete the trackrid end goes. Im guessing this is missing the adapter you speak of
Looks like it - if it's not on the ball joint shaft. A machine shop should be able to make it for you. Alternatively do what I did - buy an old hub assembly (make sure it's still pressed in though) and recover the bush.
Found a guy on ebay who manufacturers them at £20 a pop. Ordered yesterday, and will be here this morning, so hopefully thats that (and I can send back the genuine renault wishbone I bought ♂️) Appreciate the help.....id have been scratching my head over this for a long time otherwise!
