265 Cup air con not working

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Nicholas Weston, Jun 26, 2019.

  1. As per the title. Bought a 265 last week and assumed that it just needed a re-gas. Had that done today along with two new tyres and alignment but it’s still not working.

According to the mechanic, there are no leaks and it’s been fully re-gassed.

It’s going in on the 11th July to have loads more work done. Cambelt, brakes etc and they said they’ll see if they can diagnose the issue.

Any ideas what is the likely problem?
    Thanks.

  2. pressure switch could be gone, cheap and easy to do yourself

  3. did folk that re-gassed not make sure working correctly ?

  4. If the ECU has a fault logged, say for low pressure, this will need cleated before it will work.

  5. Thanks for the replies. How do I go about checking the pressure switch?

  6. you'll need a diagnostic tool that can do air-con and that way you can read air con gas pressure

  7. Ok. Thanks.

  8. It was them who told me there was a fault. Didn’t charge me anything.

  9. well it the system is making pressure and holding it shows compressor and condenser are ok so thats the expensive bits out way just left with switch so could be cheap fix

  10. Fingers crossed. Thanks.

  11. or could be air con compressor clutch not engaging

  12. but then system wouldn't make pressure and re-gas guys should have spotted that when testing

  13. yes it could if electromagnet is dead like on my espace, i had gas, at the right pressure but clutch was dead on compressor, changed compressor and he presto all working again.

  14. Was post recently of someone just fitting clutch only as compressor is quite steep

  15. Yep, that was me. Wasn't too bad of a job to be honest.

First thing is the car needs to get plugged into a diagnostics machine to see if any faults are stopping the ECU sending 12v to the compressor clutch. If there are no faults logged then the wiring plug on the clutch will need checked for voltage when the AC button is pressed. If there's 12v there and the clutch isn't engaging then the clutch has failed. If there isn't 12v there and there are no faults logged then it will need deeper investigation.

  16. Quality writer up, tried to find in ‘guides’ didn’t see there

  17. Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ll let you know what it is.

  18. Car currently with Renault, normally hate using dealers but needs must in this case. Just had a call querying if the car has had a remap. Stated that it also has a decat and O2 sensor delete, I feel like an idiot for not realising this, but the cars isn't that loud compared to other decatted Meganes I've been in. So, I'm assuming it has had a remap too, otherwise there would be warning lights because of the decat no?
The reason for their query is that the diagnostics doesnt show anything in relation to the air con sensor. Its just not there, like its been deleted with the remap or something. There are suggesting that's where to start, but have also said it might not fix the issue. Anyone had a similar situation?
The rest of the air con system is in place, so know idea why you would delete it from the software. Doesn't make sense.

  19. Pressure switch changed today including another re-gas...........and no different at all. Has any body got any ideas where to go from here???

  20. Could be that mapping has switch aircon off, you know who mapped it ?

  21. I'd be taking it to you're local Renault tuning specialist (like EFI Parts, RS Tuning, Engine Dynamics, K-tec) and getting them to check what's been done. It does sound like it's been coded out for some reason if Renault couldn't locate any of the info on their diagnostics equipment.

To confirm the system itself is all OK you could always hook up a 12v supply to the compressor. That way, with the engine running, the compressor clutch should engage and the air con should work. It would confirm it's software related, not hardware

  22. Yeah, that’s a good shout. I bought the car from ‘up-north’ so have contacted Rs Tuning to see if they know the car.
My nearest specialist is Ktec so might give them a call too.

  23. No idea unfortunately, I thought it was standard with an aftermarket exhaust, The previous owner didn't realise it was mapped either!
Although this is an assumption at this time as it definitely has a decat but no warning lights etc. My understanding was that in order to do this, it would have to be mapped?

Ive emailed Efi and Rs Tuning to see if they know the car. I wonder if it belonged to anyone on here previously.
The reg is RE62 EGZ. A white 265 cup.

  24. I contacted Ktec yesterday and spoke to a very helpful technician who explained that the ecu doesn’t control the air con and said it’s run by something else. Essentially he said that when doing a remap you wouldn’t be able to switch the air con off.
I’m sure it’s something else. If you were going to the trouble of deleting the air con, surely you’d remove the whole system to save the weight?

  25. Think it’s fairy common knowledge that ECU switches off the air con on all modern cars when engine is under stress and showing hi temps so not completely sure about no ECU intervention.
If system is holding pressure then must be something do with lack voltage at pump

  26. Might be worth giving the guys at Stagex Motorsport a shout. They can code out airbags and retrofit the RS monitor so I'd imagine they'd be able to diagnose what's going on or has been done to yours

  27. Thanks for the advice. I'll give them a call.

  28. Hi Nicholas,
Have you sorted out the problem with the air con? My Magane MK3 might have the same issue. I took it to the garage to investigate the problem with the air-con. They gassed it, but the aircon still did not work. It has been plugged into the computer that did not show any issues apart from a message saying -

"Does ECU prevents airconditioner work? - Yes"

    Something between these lines.

  29. meganes dont run clutch in the aircon. i posted on this a couple of years ago, they are variable displacement swash units. watch here.

  30. start the car look down on the front of the compressor where the pulley is. aircon does not need to switched on as it runs all the time on the megs. in the centre of the pulley is a 7mm square drive. if that is not spinning the drive centre has sheared. it will need a new drive centre. cheap and easy to fix and looks like this

  31. the megs have one like this and the three legs in the centre snap. this stops drive to the compressor.

  32. there is a solonoid on the rear of the compressor this activates the swash plate. when the plate is vertical the pistons pump very little. as the solonoid is activated the angle changes and more gas is pumped in. hopefully this may be your issue

  33. thats the square 7mm in the centre. these are the delphi megane compressors but bmw centre drive fit. i know i fitted one 2 years ago lol
