Thought it's best to probably move my issue here. Bit of background can be found in my welcome thread over here, http://rsmegane.com/threads/out-with-the-old-in-with-the-just-as-old.15045/#post-161099 below is a sound clip of the noise, sorry it's not great but that is from the closed cabin. Sound seems to be coming from the engine bay near the turbo/downpipe area. The exhaust looks rather rotten but I don't want to go spending money on an exhaust and downpipe and the issue was a bad turbo. Bought an elm obd to usb and got some software on the laptop. After clearing the error codes, the following was logged. P2502 - Charging System Voltage P0300-DB - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire detected P0301-DB - Cylinder 1 - Misfire detected P0313-DB - Misfire detected with low fuel This is with new coils and NGK spark plugs running Tesco 99. Could this also possibly be a bad recirculating valve, where do you guys think would be the best place to start? I have the readings from the run, just not sure how to upload them, also if there are specific readings that could help diagnose this please let me know and I will gladly supply them.
From the codes I would hazard a guess at Alterntor regulator for the charging fault and injectors need cleaning/replacing for the misfire fault.
Thanks bud, was thinking the injectors probably need sorting. For the regulator, any specific brand you would recommend? The prices seem to vary quite a bit.
Okay so, managed to get some time today. Checked the recirculating valve and that looks fairly new, does not appear to have any leaks. When revving the car to 5000rpm while stationary everything sounds good. Drive off and from 3500rpm the noise starts if accelerating hard, accelerate slowly and it's barely noticeable. Jacked the car up and there does not seem to be any play in the left or right front wheels so don't think it is the bearings.
Thinking about it that's probably what it is, going to try take it in tomorrow to get checked out. In the meantime I followed the guide on here for cleaning the injectors, gave them a good clean, that combined with the new plugs and coils the car idles and drives so much better. The power is there and it pulls really well for stock so I am almost certain the engine and turbo are ok. Anyone know a trustworthy place in Aylesbury?
