250 Wont go into 1st unless I lift reverse selector up?

  1. Been like this for a while now, sometimes its okay but still feels a little clunky, other times it just wont go in at all without having to lift up.

    Anyone with advice would appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. Are you getting and more vibrations through the car? If so possibly engine or gearbox mount. If mis-aligned due to one of those, it would cause the symptoms you're experiencing
Not sure how the Megs are set up but this happened twice on a previous car i had, both times it was the gear linkage.

  3. I never understood how engine position can affect these cable operated gear change systems. The outer cable shroud is normally attached to the gearbox and thus kicks about along with the inner cable when the box moves.. now, if the shroud was fastened to the chassis, I would see how it could cause problems..

  4. Thanks for the replies guys!

It seems to be going in a lot easier during this hot weather? Not sure if that helps diagnose the problem anymore?
