250 Won’t rev into the redline

  1. Not that I regularly blast the car to the red line but I’ve noticed my 250 doesn’t actually rev trough the redline.
It bounces off the limiter just before at about 6k rpm.

Looking at 250 acceleration videos on the net I believe the rev limit should be about 6.5k rpm?

Anyone any idea what the problem could be?
To clarify it’s not the cold start limiter as the car is fully upto temp when I try this.

  2. Mine did something similar. Some new spark plugs curred it nicely

  3. Already changed the spark plugs, made no difference. It’s hitting the limiter, it’s not misfiring.

  4. Thermostat stuck open and not warming up enough so sticking to cold limit?

  5. Doh! Should read better !

  6. I have done abit of research and apparently the thermostat can cause this?

  7. What's the gauge on the dash showing? is it always low?

  8. Yes indeed, a stuck open thermostat means car won't get warm enough to get off the cold map - hence my reply but then I re read and you said it was fully up to temp?! If the water gauge is always low or drops down when you let off the throttle it's likely this is your culprit

  9. Well I say upto to temp but thinking about it it’s mostly on the line before half way which I assumed was normal?

  10. The line before half way, Like the gauge below.

  11. Yep that is normal as long as it goes there and stays there

  12. Mine did this it was the thermostat the car wouldn’t rev past 5k even when up to temp

  13. Cheers pal. I’m going to change it when I get round to it.
