Windscreen wiper arm bolt and nut threaded on Megane 225??

  1. Hey,

I was struggling to get my drivers side wiper arm off so I hit the bolt with a hammer to free it . . .

Now I've come to re-fit it looks like I have damaged the thread on the bolt and thus threaded the nut trying to screw it back on.

I'm assuming I have to replace the whole motor/linkage now since the bolts are part and parcel of the unit.

Anyone got a spare one by any chance?

Or I could perhaps have my one machined again by a local Engineer.

NEVER use a metal hammer on the end of a bolt, lesson learnt!

might as well just buy a second hand one, plenty on ebay

  3. Have you thought about trying to re-thread the bolt first, you could always re-tap the nut or just buy a new one?

  4. Whilst on the car you mean? How would I go about re-threading the bolt? It might be possible since it's only the first couple of threads which are damaged . . .

I'll just replace the nut as it's buggered

  5. Get an appropriate size dye (can get one shape like a big nut, and it will recut the threads.

  6. Ok cheers buddy I'll give it a go . . .

  7. As above. Using the nut you have find out whether it's an M10 (for example) and then buy a M10 die to re-cut the bolt. Have a look at buying a decent quality set though that has all the dies and taps as it's a good set to have for the future. I bought a Draper set a few years ago which they look to still sell, it's circa £40 but IMO worth the money:
