1. Well, got home today to find my passenger window open.Door card off, regulater out and dried off, it was soaking wet, bit of WD40, nothing, sod all working, quick call to Ed (liquidF1) who told me how to get the window back up (what a PITA) and 2 x new regs ordered, what a shit design!!!!!!

  2. Dan

Maybe worth checking with Renault, as I'm sure they still contribute 70% to the cost. (Have a search on line, there must be something somewhere)

  3. Common fault, a bit like the design of the bonnet

  4. bought the new bits for 48 each, would rather sort it myself (or rather get Ed to do it) than let a dealer anywhere near it.

  5. Try closing the terminals on the plug closer common fault used to sort them daily

  6. We are going to take the door cards off and take some preventative measures when we do my rad and intercooler.

  7. cheers Jamie, will give it a try.

  8. Nb u need to flick the we cover off so u can see the connectors

  9. i even heard of one guy sticking a bag around it to prevent water getting onto it ,worked ever since he did it. once dried out of course

  10. So hold on, the window went down of it's own accord?! Shit that's a bit of a worry....!

Might have to actually suck it up and get mine done then. It was £200 I didn't really want to spend just yet with the dealers but looks like I'll have to...

  11. Yup, went out in the morning and window fully open, its happened with both windows now, i've tried tweaking the pins a bit and have had a hair drier blowing on it for an hour, but still won't work.just waiting for the new bits to turn up and i'll make sure no water ever gets in there again.

  12. this is my job for the weekend too. recently my windows have gone worse you press them to go up and they go down and start dancing all over the place. got loads of water in door pockets too so gonna have a good clear out and clean regulators connections too.is it easy enough to strip door card?

  13. bit of a pita first time. I've had to get new regulators, no amount of love would get the passenger side to work so gonna change both.

  14. How much are the regulators

  15. You should get a 12month warranty if renault do it....I've had it done three times...£126 everytime

  16. 46 for the bits and do it yourself, plus you can add a bit of waterproofing while you're in there : )

  17. changed both today, got a coat of grease around it all as well so should keep the water out until next time.

  18. i wouldn't let them anywhere near mine, its pretty easy to do yourself.

  19. Renault did my drivers window at over £200 and it's never been right since. I should take it back but they damaged my car in the process and wouldn't take responsibility.

I fixed my passenger side for nothing by messing with the wires. It's never been right since (same) but at least I saved £200.

I think jamiearmstrongf1 above is correct - it's not even the regulators at fault, just a bad connection. My passenger side was dry as a bone, no water or moisture anywhere to been seen or corrosion. Trouble is Renault will change everything with a 75% contribution but that's not the problem. It's a badly designed electrical connection that's prone to failing. Water may well exacerbate this but it's not the real fault. Due to the 75% you think Ren are being 'right' but really they changing components that don't need changing and you're paying for work that doesn't need doing.

  20. No amount of fiddling would make the passenger side work, and it had water dripping out of it. I did get the driver side working again after a bit of tweaking, but decided to change it anyway as i had the new reg. It's got to be one of the shitiest bits of design in car history.

  21. Dont get me started

  22. forgot to say "apart from the bonnet":tongueout:

  23. I had my driver's door apart yesterday to investigate the problem. Eventually got to the regulator, but couldn't remove it because I didn't have a T8 torx screwdriver, and was going to get one today, but I went and tried the window this morning and it's working. Think I'm going to give it a good dry with a hairdryer, seal it as best I can with some insulating tape and hope it continues working OK.

  24. Forgive the thread hijack but mine got closed before I could find out what to do. Apprantly there's a how to thread for removing the door panel and accessi the window regulator. I can't find it, does anyone have the link

  25. Mine packed up today Martin, on top of everything else that's happened lately. I'm blaming you for starting the ball rolling

  26. Mine packed up, turned out it wasn't the Reg this time (fixed it before) it was the motor, wire had come out the side.

  27. This youtube video worked for me:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D-iJQqx63M

It's on a 5-door Megane, but the principles are all the same.

  28. Nice one for the links and tips everyone. Managed to get the card off and get to the regulator. Which was damp and appeared to have been fixed by the previous owner. A bit of GT85 and the window works!!

2 problems however 1- the screw behind the window switch does not line up any more ( all others do) 2- the window makes a kinda of crunching noise when it's gets half way down (coming from where the speaker/ regulator is).

Any ideas What have I done wrong before I get the thing off again tommorow?????

  29. Nice one on the youtube link.

My passenger side rear window doesn't seem to want to go work anymore from either driver side window control or from the actual door control either.

I know the previous owner had replaced the regs in a couple of windows. Fine renault work!

  30. Speaker grid off, speaker screws removed, little hammer out and tap the the regular fast but gently through the hole whilst flicking the button back and forward at the same time. Guaranteed to work! I carry the hammer and screwdriver in the car for when it decides to randomly pack up. Usually starts working again with 3 minutes. Four times it's happened this year and each time had it working again with three minutes. Not had a problem with it for four weeks now. My mate brought his round the other day with the same problem. Had it working in less than one minute. You will probably need to reset it once it starts working. It will move up in stages! Once at the top, keep your finger on the button for around five seconds. Then try it to see if it works properly.

  31. You'll probably find that if it's been done before, the connections may just need cleaning up. I just cut a section if loom out of a car in a scrap yard as mine was too corroded

  32. 9 times out of 10 it's a connection issue, as mentioned above. Remove speaker grill and speaker you can then reach in and with a stubby flat blade release the clip on the connector and feed it back through the speaker hole. Pry off the yellow connector retainer with flat blade and check for green connections. If they are lightly corroded as most are I.e a tad green use some electrical cleaner (not greasy stuff and I small pic/electrical screwdriver and scratch the terminals up. The terminals can also be tightened slightly using a small pic by pushing where the connector retainer sits on the back of the terminal. Be careful though they bend easily and if pushed to far will stop the connector being pushed back on. Apply ample amounts of connection gel and put yellow terminal cover back on. Reconnect and it should be working. If not it's more than likely the module or motor but as I say 9/10 times it's just the connector. If you need a new connector because of severe melting/corrosion a little tip is the Clio 1.2 throttle body connector has gold plated terminals and could be worth tracking down if you are going to a scrap yard, exactly the same connector!

  33. Waah fml.

    Typical of my current luck.

Passenger rear window hasn't worked for like 2, maybe 3 weeks, from both driver control or door control.

Started up this morning and went to lower windows to clear some of the rain and out of habit I hit all 4 controls.

    Yay window went down!

FML window wouldn't go back up. Needed housemate to come out to assist and now I have a window that when I'm not moving will just about stay up but as soon as i move it falls down.

Fuck. Might get a chance to look after work but no garage or street lights might make it difficult to do anything; and i'm working the weekend so could be sunday night/monday before i can really look at it.

    *sighs*

  34. urgh, 2 hours last night in fading light to get the damn door panel off. Looks like the reg was "fixed" by the previous owner judging by the tape around it

Window is currently "held up" in place until I can get the reg fixed over weekend.

    Thanks Renault.

  35. :worried:

Car is covered 79% by Renault (so around 95e all in to replace regulator) but they want like 2-3 days to confirm thats the fault then check with head office and then replace.

It's my only mode of transport and I can't get by without a car.

Those lil cube jobs I've seen online, are they worth it? or should I take the offer from Renault (which would have a 12 month warranty)

  36. Remember the cubes won't allow the one-shot up and down to work, so you'll have to hold the button, which would be a pain. Also, the closing function when you double click the remote won't work. I'd be interested to see Renault's calculations for 79% resulting in €95 for you. I've taken my door apart a couple of times now, fiddled, and got the window working again. I'm slow and careful and can do it all in around an hour...

  37. Something like 300e for Renault to do the job...per window but there was some investigation done in 2011 about the shoddyness of the workmanship and Renault here are doing a good-will thing.

Just been getting the run-around from 2 different garages and can't manage sans car is my big issue (thought my insurance would cover the costs of a rental but I didn't pick that option!)

  38. Just to follow up on my own adventure with my window!

Called to my own mechanic this morning and he had a look - even after playing around with and cleaning connections he wasn't able to get the window working so it looks as if the regulator has gone but it might be a wiring issue - fuses are fine and there's no loose or cut wires at the door jam.

it'll be another 2 weeks before I have days off to leave it in for them to check. *sighs*
