Why are the rear speakers so quiet/flat? (MK3)

  1. Part of the reason I replaced all my speakers, and now the head-unit, was because the rear speakers were so quiet and flat.

I’ve put some good quality 180W 2-way Pioneers in and still they’re very quiet and flat (fader all the way to the rear and the volume reasonably high).

Is there any logical reason why both the old speakers powered by the old head-unit and now also the new speakers powered by the new head-unit are so quiet and flat?

As far as I understand there are no cross-overs in the standard head-unit or the car’s wiring, so the front tweeters receive the same signal as the front mains and likewise the rears. I don’t have tweeter grills in the rear so have just fitted 2-way (full-range) speakers in the rear, but they just sound so quiet and flat, even with my ear really close to the grill…

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!
