It's that time again, Two things on the pss, which version are people going for, on oponeo there is 2 types with £2 difference, there is pss 88y which is £105 each. And there is pss xl 92y which are £103, what's the difference and which ones are people going for? Also so with me now having a house my car does little less mileage, I'd still like a tyre that can perform well on the road and be able to use as a wet track day tyre as such, what are the ad08's like in the wet and on track days in the wet? im kind of set of the Michelin pss but the ad08's are £112 atm so thought it may be worth a punt?
I have PSS on my r26 and they are the 92Y ones.... If its of any use, I'm almost 95% I'm going to put AD08R on my track wheels for the very reason that they'd be a better bet in on off rain type situations than a more agressive semi slick - but yet to try.
Thought as much, may stick with my original plan and get the PSS, I know a lot have spoken highly about the Michelins in all weather conditions. I already have have some semi slicks papps, I run DZ03G's on front and Khumo v70a's on rear both in medium and it's an absolute cracking combo. Just wish the dunlops were cheaper, I got a bargain I couldn't resist with mine. I know what you mean though, tbh semi slicks aren't that bad in the slight off/damp weather, torrential is a different story lol Have you considered the new R888r mate? They're £155 a tyre atm on oponeo, go to be worth a punt at that price. Im tempted to get a set next year if they stay at this price when mine need changing. Was just about to start a thread on these and see if anyone had tried them yet lol
Thanks chris! - I checked oponeo literally 5 days ago or so and they weren't listed yet - will have a look now! Thats the thing, if it was really wet the PSS would be staying on the car anyway - and people say that the old R888 would surpirse you when its up to temp in damp conditions - maybe I should get a full semi slick given I have the PSS for bad days anyway.....? AD08 are around 111 each in 225 atm Its a difficult decision as there are so many options lol
I'm on PSS's just now having removed my DZ03's and have ran the super sports for the best part of a year. My fronts are due a replacement and i honestly don't think ill be sticking with them, Back to PS2's. Stiffer sidewall makes all the difference. Plus the PS2's don't drop off a cliff once they are worn to 3/4mm. Maybe the PSS2 will have a stiffer sidewall, then i may come back to them.
yer I hate tyres for this reason too. I just hate decisions on car related stuff I spend ages assessing the options, looking at pros and cons and going round and around in circles lol. Thats what im doing currently, I was going to use my conti sc5's for wet days but I dropped lucky and haven't had a wet track day yet this year (touch wood) but thought I'd try a different tyre this time round. I would say that's your better option rather than a decent all round road tyre and a half way there tyre. Which version of the PSS are you running Jamie? 88y or the XL version with 92y? i would have thought the XL 92y would have a slightly stiffer sidewall doesn't it?
As Chris said Steve, DZ03's. Chris, Running the XL versions. Even then you can still feel how soft they are
That is disappointing, I was at Thruxton the other day running the 235 95xl PS2s on my R26. Really really happy with the car on track except for the stock pads which are pretty rubbish. The PS2s match the amount of movement in the suspension and balance the cars handling just about perfectly running 36/29 hot IMHO, anything softer in construction would not be a good place to be at all, would be pretty scary I reckon. They do pull on the rims but no more than I have seen on my race car, here are some pictures to show what I mean (images 6,7 & 9); http://www.fresh-orange.co.uk/racers.php?e=21&f=1014
You guys know how to make a hard decision harder. Goto look at PS2's now haha I was expecting them to be more but they're working out at £111 from both oponeo and camskill. So we've established the sidewals are stiffer. How is the wet performance between the 2 versions? What are your experiences and opinions?
