Which Fuses are only live on ignition?

  1. I'm wiring up a dash cam with a hard wiring kit and I need to know which fuses would be switched with the ignition. I tried the rear wiper as well as the cigarette lighter fuses but both seemed to stay on when I took the keycard out of the car. I'm confused as to when things switch off as the radio keeps playing until I open the door for example. Any ideas? This is in a 275.

  2. My hard wire kit is wired to to radio fuse in the glove box fuse box in my R26. It does stay recording even if I take out the key card but stops when the door is opened, or if I manually turn the radio off with the stop/start switch.

  3. I'll have to conduct further testing. Why cars can't just have keys that you turn in the barrel I'll never know...

  4. True, some things were easier. My DRLs are off the same fuse so come on when the engine is off and I'm sitting in the car with the radio on. Wiring the dashcam to the radio is OK, just means it will continue to record while you are parked but still in the car with the radio on. Most of the time you just get out after stopping so the cam stops within 10 secs of opening the door.

  5. Well with a nextbase kit it should have voltage protection so it won't drop too low but I don't really want it doing that all the time.

  6. I'm pretty sure location 8 on this diagram is switched ignition. I've used one before on a sub install, can't find a picture of the one I used but im thinking it was the rear view mirror.
This is the fuse box visible through glove box.

  7. I'll give that a go thanks.

  8. For anybody who is interested, whilst some fuses are switched on ignition, if you have a car with stop start low priority items will be disconnected momentarily. These include things like wipers or the cigarette lighter. The one thing I found that is ignition but doesn't cut out is the ABS sensor. So if you have a car with stop start, piggyback off that.
