Anyone out there no of a guide on how to change the front wheel bearings on an RS 250. Had lower hub bearings fitted about 4 months ago so hopefully everything will come apart without too much trouble , just would be happier if I had a guide to follow.
It is fairly easy, did mine a few weeks ago. As you want to do it yourself, i dont think i have to tell you to remove the wheel and loose driveshaft... Then remove caliper and brake disc, after that you can loose four bolts from the back that are holding the hub/wheel bearing. If you have the new bearing with the hub already, then just install it back, if you have only bearing you have to press old one out from the hub and new one in. Thats it. Cool , wasn't sure if the whole hub would have to come of to access the four bolts but if it's as easy as that then job done as the bearings come fitted to the carrier. Thanks a lot for the quick reply.
Unfortunately didn't all go according to plan, because of the angle to get into some of the bolts at the back I ended up stripping the torx head off of the last one so end of plan. Any Ideas ?
Try a undersize Torx and a hamer, if no luck with that use a extractor make sure it's on nice and square before you put any leverage on it. If it's completely mullered remove the hub and you will have better chance of success with it in a vice and possibly drilling it out.. If you have to drill it make sure you have correct size drills and taps. Good luck
Kind of thought that's what I would have to do. Does that mean even after I get it loose I still have to press the old bearing out from the front plate the wheel nuts go into.
I had to turn the steering wheel to get some better angle for the bolts, using correct tools and it wasnt hard. Sent from my SM-A300F using Tapatalk
Finally after 2 hours of cursing and skint knuckles I eventually managed to get the stripped torx bolt out using a set of Irwin bolt grips. had to go down three different sizes as the head got chewed up till I eventually got it out but I would highly recommend these for everyone's toolbox . that bolt seriously did not want to come out, as I say 2 hours of applying freeze spray and wd40. Puts me off even attempting to replace the bearings myself in case I get myself in more bother
