A wheel wobble after fitting new discs and pads? Had the whole front off to fit new Godspeed set up at the weekend. Took everything off, cleaned the calipers, hubs, faces, fitted new G-Hook discs and PFC Z R pads. At first lost all the brake pedal so figured somehow introduced air - that eventually was sorted just a lot of pedal pumping (i'll get them bled). Then went for a drive to start bedding in process, not far, just up and down the road and at 40mph the wheel has a serious wobble now. Everything was re-torqued to spec and nothing has a wobble on the ground or off it for that matter. Only thing i can think of is that the pads aren't sat right against disc or disc on hub but all looks solid. Any ideas?
hi mate - only real thing that would cause it just purely on the brake change would be if the discs aren't sitting right on the hub themselves. Pads wouldn't be an issue as when the pedal is pushed it'll sit the pads flush anyway. If it's purely when braking then possibly warped disc due to couriers not being very careful.. discs aren't the wrong direction are they? Seems a stupid thing to say but could well cause it too as i know Godspeed discs need to mounted directionally. main things to check with wheel wobble are tyres and brakes - i would just wire brush the hubs again if i were you and check
Thanks for the reply, that is pretty much what i thought too. I'll spend an afternoon stripping it down again and refitting, making sure to give everything a re-clean. See whats what afterwards. Knowing me, it'll be something stupid i haven't noticed. Cheers
When new discs are fitting, the hub need to be absolutely clean of rust or any posible dirty. If not, never will seat properly, causing that horrible sense when breaking. By the way, I´m interested in that brand of disc, would you tell me something about when you have tested in a time? I´ll apreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance and tell us if you solve the problem
Yeah me too. I've had sets on a couple of my impreza's and never an issue. So was stumped that its wobbling so bad. I know Ian makes great kit no question of that. So its got to be something i've done fitting them. Just visually, nothing appears wrong. I will have to re-do them and see what idiot mistake i've made.
So I am stripping it down. The discs had no rotational stickers on even I got them. But I've been told they are specific to one rotation or the other. Does this look right? Or should the disc be on the other side? You are looking at drivers side. Its like -3 outside so my brain isn't working. But i think that should be on the passenger side. So definitely not right. Unless someone tells me otherwise Thanks in advance.
Good news then on the rotation side. I'll check the driveshaft bolts, haven't messed with them but worth checking for sure. thanks.
position of 'J' hook not criteria need centre veins to flow correct way if disc's are handed pair then they are side specific if not handed then doesn't matter as only one side will have veins correct way like factory discs
-3ºC!! That can´t be healty dude!! About disc, that´s the right side for me, but like bobsan says, don´t think matter.
So strip and refit - not sure what i did different but must have been something - only thing i noted was misaligned pad retaining spring thingy. Anyway all sorted now. Next to move on to do the rears before MOT on Friday. Thanks all.
