225 What size tyres?

  1. Time to replace the tyres on the 225, I know what brand I'm going for (Dunlop)

But am a little confused about what size of tyre I need.

I have 225/40 R18 on the car and seen a few other 225 running the same.
But when entering my reg on tyre websites it shows as 235/40

There is a £20 difference on the tyres but just need to know which one I need?

  2. Stick to 225s mate

  3. I think 230s were standard fit on the R26 but both will work.
Which Dunlop tyres are you going for? I run the sport maxx rt's which are great on the road wet and dry. On the track they only last 10-15mins before going a bit greasy.

  4. I'm looking at the Sport Maxx. Had a set on my Puma before I got the Megane and found them good in the dry and wet, almost as good as the old style Goodyears F1s.

i won't be doing any track time on them

  5. I'd stick with 235 if it was me.

Sounds daft but I think the 225 size looks a bit stretched on the wheel. I put 235 Michelin PS3 on my 225 Trophy as soon as I got it.

  6. Exactly this, plus it makes the arch gap look bigger which is horrible.

  7. I'm going to put my neck out there after switching to 225's and say don't do it. Initially I thought they were ok and I stated that openly in another thread, but after having the car mapped and spending a bit of time with them on I think I need to go back to the 235s.

I'm no driver so it's hard for me to explain but to me it feels like the sidewalls are too soft.

There's a fast long right hander joining the m40 that I do almost everyday and if I go a bit too quick the front feels like it wants to wonder off to the left at any moment. I know that when i used to have the 235s it clung on beautifully.

In a straight they feel great, just feel a bit strange to me through some bends. I've tried a few pressures but still doesn't feel 100%

    Edit: I'm on PSS's

  8. This applicable to all 18 wheels fitted to the RS?

I'm just about to do a full tyre change and the 235 vs 225 is a consideration.

You will be changing the rolling radius as well though so can the speedo adapt and maybe this why it feels so different (both being 40 profile tyre).
