What would you like to drive if you couldn't get Megane RS: Golf GTI, Focus ST/RS, M3 MPS, Astra VXR, Civic Type R, Gulietta 1.75, Leon Cupra? Or anything else?
In regards to hot hatches the Megane is the best FWD so that's what I had. I would have preferred an M135i, A45 AMG or Impreza STI/Cosworth but they are all considerably more expensive.
Highest I've seen without wmi is 390bhp/397lbft with wmi 420bhp not sure of torque, I must admit I've never been in one and I know the wheels struggle being fwd but I love the look of them ( had a btcc fr tdi before) and on a dry day good launch can run 12.8-9 at Crail or pod. Obviously I wanted the complete package tho
My mates s3 (same engine) is stage 2+ and runs a comfortable 367. They map to just over 300 with no mods at all
Still rather that M135i. The older N54 engine mapped to 380bhp straight out the box so I guess we'll see how the maps for the N55 stack up. Correct wheel drive too.
Meganes are ugly, well in the same way a the new one series anyway. Shit at first but sort of grows on you. The original one series coupe is the looker of the bunch, boots > hatches. Closer to my price range too and been on the market long enough for some decent mods to be available. Fucking BMW welded the crown wheel in so getting an LSD is difficult. Why do manufacturers do shit like this?!
I'd have an edition 30. Love my mates, So fast and the build quality is really good. Its lovely, but its not the same as my Megane. lol.
I love my Renault and can't think of anything that would give me more smiles per miles. Sometimes I'm tempted by an Exige or a Cayman bit there's no other hatchback or saloon that does it for me.
Considered a focus rs before the meg but interior put me off. Recently thought about a mk5 gti ed30 but change my mind like the wind! Audi RS4 would be a nice upgrade to save for.
E46 M3 or a Cayman S. Will be getting one or the other next year to replace the Megane, Bored of FWD now....
Fair play to you mate. You deserve it. You may as well while you can because you might not get the chance again. I know that's morbid but it's true
To be honest, if I couldn't have my inferno 225, I'd probably have a more crazy garage queen like a TVR Tuscan or mid-90s Porsche 911. The inferno became a garage queen by accident but if I was to buy a car specifically for that it wouldn't be a hot hatch. If I couldn't have a Megane RS at all and had to have a different hot hatch, I'd probably go for the current Astra VXR or a MKII Focus RS.
I'd like to try out the 2014 Golf R, 300 bhp + DSG = 0-60 of 4.8s. My Meggy is a track virgin so I reckon the golf would be good enuff for fast road and daily commute.
To be honest, there aren't many cars I'd choose over the Megane. I don't like the Golfs. I find the GTI uninspiring and the 4 tailpipes on the R are just too much. I would consider a Scirocco R though, I think they look lovely, but I've never driven one - but if they'd been out when I got mine, I'd have certainly considered one! The tax on the new Impreza STI is too much, I don't like the styling of the Astra VXR, and the Focus ST doesn't have a limited slip diff. I would consider the M135i. I'm not looking to get a new car though, but I think I'd consider one of those. I wouldn't mind Volvo V40 T5 - but they insist on putting an auto box in it, and that just doesn't interest me (I could probably tow the Caterham with one too).
If I had the chance again and the same sort of money I would be looking at an S2 Exige. I've always fancied a Lotus but the Elise is abit soft for my liking. (I know new they are a lot more, but used examples can be had for around 17k)
I wouldn't mind another 911 probably won't get another till I'm old and over 30+ can't be bothered with the up keep.
the new golf R is evo mags new hot hatch king..300hp/300lbft..seen one in black the other day and it looked great..also the new 2.0T/vtec/direct injection civic type R will probally blow everything else into the water when it comes out.
For me it would be the new Alpina D3, only problem is the price tag other than that it's perfect for me.
If I hadn't bought the RS, Focus ST Accord Euro R Mazda 6 MPS Octavia Vrs with the Accord the front runner until I came across the RS!
I've owned the 3 MPS. Decent enough thump in the back and LSD traction. Other than that, awful damping and pretty un inspiring. My old man had an M135i. Engine and gearbox are special, though lacks an LSD and could be a little firmer.
