R26 What head unit

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by jimboy2, Feb 6, 2014.

  1. Hi all.

In the process of getting the r26 up to a nice spec. It's now time for the sounds.

The he last time I purchased a head unit was in 2003 when I got a alpine all singing all dancing fold out touch screen thingy costing me a tidy 2k:eek:

Now I'm a bit older now and not as stupid! I have already done the speaker upgrade and it still sounds crap so now it's time for the head unit. What do you recommend? Want a aux out put. Also have a 12 inch sub in the garage somewhere so may fit that at some point so need RCA output

    thanks all

  2. You might want to think about going digital, I do believe that the switch over is round the corner?

  3. That is a option I guess think it will be a while yet tho.

Yeah that's about right, £299 at Car Audio Centre.

  10. Is that so..... What units can you get? I'm after any double din with with a decent spec.

  11. my aunti works for alpine so can get any of the new models .. some may be refurbs though but that is reflected in the price

  12. Awesome lucky fella! If there's one going cheap send it my way

  13. I would take a good spec double din for cheap

Just for anyone else wondering as well, here's the Pioneer:

  15. I s looking at the app radio newest one but I'm a bit skint to splash 300 quid out in oner

  16. Looks nice! Where does the USB plug in?

On the rear with an extension cable

  18. It's quite easy to feed the cable through to the glovebox although you need to drill a small hole in the side of the glovebox, it's best to do this with the box removed as there is a wiring loom in between the center console and glovebox

  19. Does the above headunit still work with the steering controls?

Is it hard to change the headunit? Im looking at an Alpine one with Bluetooth and Dab.

  21. It's really easy. What alpine unit? I found the dab alpine units hard to find.

  22. I got myself an Alpine a few months back. It came with an adapter which is a direct plug-in to the original harness, all speakers cables, ign, +ve, -ve, illum...... in 2 separate sockets and an antenna.

Where's the cheapest place for the leads for stalk adapters

  24. How do u get an alpine headunit to sync with the steering controls and dash display cause I noticed pioneer has a special adapter just for renaults

  25. So do alpine

  26. The steering wheel control adapters tend to be universal. You then need a specific "patch lead" for the head unit.

  27. With an iPhone, still need to get the HDMI to lightning adapter though

  29. @matt e you are a legend! But I guess the display will only show temp and time but it's cool. I like that it has a call answer function

yeah just show time and temp and also 'RENAULT' on it

  31. Paul, was there gap from the stop of the center consol to the cage the headunit sits in?

  32. Nope it's a tight fit, i needed to grind out sides where the cabasse normally sits and something behind the headunit which is shown in this thread was there gap from the stop of the center consol to the cage the headunit sits in? http://www.meganeownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&p=69747
