Fair enough, I have a set on their way to Reyland to be done similarly. Fed up of the Renault non handed discs chewing through pads on one side.
Just OEM Renault discs for the time being as they were cheap. Other than an expensive 2 piece setup or a pricey OEM style setup from DBA there isn't really much choice for the MK3. Im more curious as to whether they will wear a bit better and perform better than the OEM grooved discs. I know J-hook style discs have better high speed bite but the trade off is that they wear the pads a bit quicker than just grooved, Still at least my discs will be handed now in terms on groove direction as opposed to Renaults lazy effort
Jamie im not familiar with that term unhanded or handed discs, care to make me wiser my friend and share lol
On the MK3 anyway they list one disc for both sides so the grooves face different ways on each side. Means one side wears pads a fair bit quicker IME and is probably one of the reasons I'm keen to try smoothing else.
Finishes work early so decides she needs a good clean so........ Connects the pressure washer to the kitchen tap and off I go. An hour and a half later after a good clean and a quick black holing, comes back In to the house to find the push fit had come off the tap and the kitchen under half an inch of water!! In the bad books with the wife does not come close. But on the plus side the Meg looks nice!
Ha ha thanks mate I can feel the sympathy...... She is not stable like most women in times of rage, the could have been blood mixed in with all the water!!
I believe that is something different. The copper slip is sometime said to cause reaction between different metals, however others say no. - galvanic corrosion
The copper is for dipping the wheel bolts when refitting them, and smearing between disc and alloy to make the next change easier. I have proper caliper\pad grease which came with my caliper service kits There'll be no moaning from me
265's maiden m.o.t which it flew through, plus a 12k service & brake fluid change by Mick at diamond motors. Brilliant service as always and a bloody nice chap to!
No bother I know exactly what you mean, some don't listen or refuse to take advice. I've never experienced any sqeal from Brembo pads anyway. Using some MTEC discs though which I've not used before so who knows.
I work in the motor trade and used to work for EuroCarParts, trying to get mechanics to heed advice was tough. "Don't use copper grease on brakes" 2 hours later... "these brakes you've sent me are squealing" "that's because you've used copper grease, haven't you" "yes"
Copper-slip is an anti-seize compound. It's meant to be used on parts that don't move, but to enable them to be taken apart later. Items that are designed to move against each other should have a lubricant applied (unless designed to run dry such as some bike chains). Items that must not come apart on their own should have a thread lock applied.
You shouldn't put them on wheel bolts, It effects what torque they need tightened to. Ive personally seen a couple of cases of cars that have nearly lost wheels on track that have had copper grease put on bolts, Myself included after a garage put it on, Wondered my they needs re-torqued repeatedly
Just to clarify this will be going on the pads / disc. Not used it before so no opinion, it's come with the new gear I bought so no point buying owt else
