I was just cleaning out my girlfriends 02plate clio 1.2 extreme, and under the seats I noticed the cables had been soldered together but only on the drivers side. Why do you think this has been done? I'm prepared for you to say it's been crashed as I think the car is a heap. And was never looked after properly by its 2 previous owners.
Could be bypassing the seatbelt warning system? Which not to scare you but is normally linked to airbag system so if it's been bypassed system won't know if there is anyone in the seat...
Common fault for the plastic connector to fail so you get a fault light on the dash. IIRC will soon be an MOT failure, so people cut the connector off and solder the wires together. Shouldn't be a problem but will mean you can't take the seats out now.
