Weight saving... Noise insulation removal? Ideas or advice would be great!

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by Dorset225, Mar 21, 2015.

  1. Hi all. I'm looking to save some weight (from the car). I always remove the seats and boot lining but looking to go a bit further.

Is it possible to remove the noise insulation from the floor? Has anybody done it?

Any other ideas would be gratefully received

  2. I've done it.

    All sound deadening gone
    plastic windows
    all internal plastic gone
    etc etc

  3. Is it a big job to get rid of the floor sound deadening? Is it possible to refit the carpets afterwards? Cheers.

Glovebox, underfloor tar deadening (or whatever it is), clio battery, engine cover, engine sound deafening will save a bit but getting the seats out and replaced will be the big un. OEM numbers a re SO heavy.

Piss easy if you remove seats which is four bolts per seat. Watch how you butcher the foam under the seats though as it holds the carpets shape. If you're not bothered about that though just go wild.

  6. Are u tracking it?

  7. Yep its for track days but still use it on the road so cant go too crazy!

Is there much weight to be saved from removing the floor foam?

So far on my list is the cd changer, rear wiper, engine cover/insulation, spare wheel, and all seats apart from driver!

  8. Get 2 Buckets in there, that will be the biggest saving

Do the glovebox theres a few kg there. Fog lights, engine plastics.. Every little helps.

  10. Ah, fog lights, good idea!

Will keep my eye out for second hand seats

    Cheers guys

  11. If it's for track then go all out.
As tesco say 'every little helps'

  12. I'll get some pictures of mine tomorrow.

You ou can even replace the wheel well with 2mm alloy

  13. ok, thanks for the advice. Look fwd to seeing some pics...

  14. Doesn't removing too much weight adversely affect the mechanical grip of the car on the road, particularly the rear making it tail happy

  15. Never had an issue

can do, i slapped the cage in which helped. Pull weight from the front too and its not too much of an issue.
