225 Water everywhere

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by robin.yule87, May 25, 2015.

  1. Hi I don't know if I've the correct forum or what but I've a big problem with my megane 225 2006reg. The temp went up and dumped all the water from the system on the road. Now when I fill up the header tank it drains straight through and down. A mechanic said it was the water pump as the head gasket is fine as is everything else (blowers etc) I'm unsure of cost as I'm new to cars, and whether or not that is the correct problem, would water still leak out if it's the pump, even with the engine off! Any help would be grand if this msg works. Cheers.

Right forum. Have you asked for a quote from the garage to replace it that will tell you if it's worthwhile doing. If not someone might take the car off your hands

  3. Great cheers I'm looking online and getting different prices for different looking water pumps, I hope it's just a standard part . A Renault garage quoted me £400 inc pump and timing belt! Does that sound fair? Also I bought the car from trade 5days ago and it went pop 3 days after, it's just stood now, ppl are saying I shud go down the trading standards route??!

  4. did you buy the car from the trade or as trade from a garage, if the later then I am afraid you bought it as is, if the former then yes you have a valid claim, I think think the quote for 400 for pump and belts n labour is a good one mate imo

  5. You sure it's the water pump. There is a pipe that connects to the coolant bottle that could of split.

  6. I bought it from a 2nd hand garage, from trade I think is the correct term I'm honestly unsure! The mechanic said they are 99% sure it's the water pump, but like I say wud it leak if it was??! There is an awful grinding noise coming from what sounds to be the water pump, indicating a bearing has gone as the head and engine block is fine, and the car still pulls like a train!!! It's a shame I've only had it so little time and this has happened !

  7. I'd get a second opinion as for the price from Renault that's very very cheap. Where are you located?

  8. Listen robin it may be best to bite the bullet on this and get the belts changed anyway mate, always wise move if they not been done and that way the waterpump can be changed anyway, peace of mind on both counts then amigo, as mj57 says great price from Renault, almost to good for them ...

  9. I'm in Durham mate, he is a Renault specialist sorry not actually Renault so maybe that accounts for the rate?! I'm going to see the dealer I bought it off to see if I get any love, if not then its an expensive enough fix for a 5day old car but maybe a wise move getting belts aswell
