Hi I'm Dru some may know of me from this forum or off Facebook, basically I'm converting my Megane 250 Cup into a race car with the aim to compete in the VLN next year at the Nordschleife. I already race a 200 cup in the uk and plan was until now to race that in Germany but I feel the Megane is a little bit future proof. Here's the car anyway My Clio Watch this space!! No, it's rather easy to race the ring, surprisingly! http://www.bridgetogantry.com/nurburgring-information/racing-the-nurburgring/ If you're looking at racing the ring, where will you be chatting about setup etc? Would love to follow the thread and get an insight
I'll keep updated on here everything that happens, also I have a vlog on YouTube which I will put updates and stuff on I'm still learning loads about racing and it's definitely a hobby so life comes first, but hopefully make good progress this year!
Yeah, I doubt you ever stop learning. Big hobby to get into, fair play for the commitment Not sure if you are interested in tuition, but I found Andy Walsh very good over at Carlimits. He is an ex F1 test driver and has helped a number of people I know with their race craft As for the ring... No idea. I would say speak to Dale Lomas and/or Ron Simmons. Ron used to race a fair bit and Dale races when he can get a seat, and knows the ring really well Have seen a few VLN races on YouTube etc and they look mental. The gap in capability - drivers and cars - seems to be huge instead of using your own car, and let's face it, if you ever have an accident on TF and rack up big third party bills then you're totally fecked no matter how much cash you have, have you considered approaching one of the local car rental places to build you a car that you can then fly over and take out without the risk of being uninsured? Then you can lap the ring far more, learn the wet lines and the overtaking lines, and don't have the aggro associated with trailering a race car over there all the time I know there are a fair few garages and I *think* some race teams use them extensively but not sure how that works
Cheers the tuition is food for thought.. I have considered renting a car and my plan is similar, build the car to regs and then store in Germany, and get race support from a team (I have touched base with a few already but it's early days) and pay for insurance... Plan will be to race a few times a year, I have so many commitments that this will fit into my life better. I also would like to eventually enter N24, sell seat time to enter with me to cover the costs. It's very early days at the moment, I'm trying to work out the regs the car needs to meet, cage and safety systems wise so I can plan the build
Because you know Dale? Or you're just assuming this because of a post he stuck on his website? When you have spoken to Dale, let me know
Just spoke to power speed in Kent for cage fitting, I need to start preparing the car now... Interior out, dash out, glass out. Still need to double confirm the spec the cage needs to meet for the production class in VLN I have spoken to gaz and discussed the coilover options... Gonna go for Gaz gold (like my Clio) with remote damping on the front. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gaz.... for the ring... ? Surprising I'm getting the Intrax 1K2s. RSR use them - may be worth having a chat to them. Other than that, KWs are popular... but Gaz? Interesting choice!
Yeah I really rate them, great service, great price.. The equivalent spec kw (competitions) or Nitrons (r3) are like 3-4 times the price I get the gaz for... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Brexit has fucked my plans for now, exchange rate is too bad, hopefully things sort themselves out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
To be fair, if the difference in exchange rates is the determining factor, probably best you don't do VLN Else you'll be bankrupt the minute something goes bang
Makes sense and you can always get back into the VLN later. Anyway, you still have the MSV and a bit more budget might help there.
