175 DCI Used vs Recon VVT Turbo

  1. I'm looking for a new (larger) turbo for my 175.

    I've had a look on eBay and I can find a couple used, none new, but loads reconditioned for a small amount more.

    I've then seen that Garett don't recommend reconditioning as they claim no-one can get the tolerances required, and Google seems to support this conclusion (that a lot of the recons are rubbish).

    Any thoughts either way? Is a second hand turbo madness?
     
  2. I'm running a rebuilt Garrett turbocharger with even aftermarket chinese wheel and runs great for the last 50k pushing over 2.2bar boost. A good shop can do it and balance it as well.
    Just make sure is really well balanced and they offer you a printout from the balancing machine.

  3. Most of the turbochargers are rebuilt (when bought new) its only a questin how god the performed wokr is.
    I would go with a reconditioned one always over a used unknow state one
