I've lost confidence in my car at the moment, wrt the brakes. When braking hard from speed, the front tends to dart left and right as if it's running in ruts on the road or similar. Think torque steer but under braking. 2010 car on 54k. I'm running new PS4s all round. Discs all round are OEM and less than a year old. Braided hoses on front. Pads are newish brembos, front and rear. I have some CL RC5+ but it's the same with them. Drop links changed less than 2 months ago. Rear calipers have just been replaced with a refurbished set. The whole system has been flushed through and re-bled with RBF 660. Bled twice now. I have some new anti-rotation links to fit and I have a Brembo caliper refurb kit sat on the shelf. The calipers look ok but the seals are in need of replacement. I'm hoping the above may solve or contribute to reducing it, but is there anything else i need to consider. I am thinking lower hub bearings but there's no presence of the usual symptoms (knocking, play etc).
that does happen on Mk2 when the swivel hub bearing are on their way or shot. So on a Mk3 i would expect ball joint on the swivel hub, I might be wrong as i don't have a Mk3 but i am sure somebody will be able to cofirm
You done swivels on it yet Chris? They cause a similar issue but what James said makes sense as well as mine can be a bit darty under hard braking as I run quite aggressive toe out something I'm going to change
I've recently had a similar problem, car pulled badly to the right and was locking front right wheel, after a lot of fecking around, i put it on an MOT brake test, hardly any pressure going to front left, a few more tests and it turned out to be ABS pump, what a pain in the arse, ll sorted now and braking back to brilliant, hope yours is an easier fix mate, let us know if you get to the bottom of it.
Guessing geo, check front toe out isn't excessive i.e. more than 10' total Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
So, I changed the AR Links and fitted a VT Torque Link this morning. I also took the calipers off and replaced the dust seals. Whilst I was at it I cleaned the calipers up and worked the pistons in and out. One or two were a little sticky but I think I've resolved that now. Obvs the VT TL will have no effect but it's notably steadier under braking. Not sure if it was just the AR Links or the calipers or, a combination of the two. Getting there. I'm gonna get the alignment checked in the next week or two. At some point when I'm flush I'll have the swivel bearings done too.
Nice, although I'd have changed the piston seals if gone that far, but guess if sure tha none will stick then should be ok, be interested see if geo keeps it straight under braking
Don't under any circumstances let the reservoir run dry and drag air into the abs pump, it's a feckin nightmare to sort
