Unplugging Sensors - what should happen?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by SteveKozy, Aug 9, 2022.

  1. Hi All,

Trying to nail down the route of my rough idling and very slight misfire.

Just wondering what sensors should do what when you unplug them.

I know if i unplug the coils it dies. So it is a good spot to find a knackered coil pack.

What (if anything) should happen if i unplug the o2 sensor? Map sensor? etc. Anything or nothing?

    Thanks
    Steve

Ignition coils are paired up, 1 and 4, 2 and 3
So if you remove a plug from the coil it kills 2 cylinders.

If you unplug the O2 sensor it will run rich and a bit crap and use loads more fuel

  3. Yeah i just ended up replacing the o2 sensor to see if it was my issue - it wasn't. Still have the same symptoms. Next step is to get it on a proper computer and/or dyno and see what it says.

  4. Oh and thanks for the response Ian, appreciated buddy.
