Trophy fun!

  1. Intro so I don’t just become a lurker!

Always been a beemer boy and most of my car history is various interesting rwd beemers from e28 M5 through to V10 M5 Touring and my current Mcoupe. I also love 80s cars and have a 944 with 40k which is one of the best ways to enjoy a sunny afternoon with the whole family.

So - around 4 years ago I was chasing my mate in his Mini GP2 in my M5 and realised I just couldn’t keep with him on the b-roads we love. So having always loved the look of Mk3 Clios I bought the best one I could find and finally owned a FWD hot hatch.

The Clio taught me how fun fwd could be - reinvigorated my love of track days and genuinely put a smile on my face every time I got in it. Quite simply for the money, a spectacular bit of kit. Spec by the time I sold was:

    Kw v3
    Akra (de-cat)
    8j Clio Cup Speedlines
    Recaros (lowered)
    Ktec engine mounts
And a whole host of alcantara and cosmetic stuff to get it how I wanted.

But then at Castle Combe this young man parked up next to me:

Obviously there are always Mk3 Megs pounding around on track days and I’ve always thought they looked fantastic but I’d deliberately never got in one to protect my wallet!

After a whole day of him offering and me politely declining I finally went out with him for the last session. What harm could that really do I told myself.

2 days later I bought this 275 trophy from OnlyPerformance who seems to have seen most of these at some point!

Unlike the Clio this one comes fully sorted so not to much mucking around needed: although red start button was obviously needed asap from carbon skins to finish the interior

    Spec is:

So far initial impressions on some drives out are that it’s everything I expected and more. The best way I could describe it is:

It does everything the Clio does (except one thing I’ll come to) better, faster and more seriously! The Gripper LSD is mental and the CAE shifter really pulls you into the experience. The map is well judged and according to the same mate who now has a 1M in place of the GP2 - “it’s just so f*#king fast!”

Only one area does the clio really score points on the Meg - noise. The NA f4r with no cats and an Akra made your spine tingle just going to the shops! Rev’d out it was just hilarious! The f4rt lives up to its name! It’s an angry noise and obviously sounds good with the decay and Akra but it’s not quite the same!

But that’s it - everything else is just Mega if you’ll excuse the pun!

So now to enjoy it properly. I’ve got Combe booked again in Oct and I’m looking forward to seeing what it can do on a track, as it’s almost too quick for the road! Also keen to get involved in any meets etc

Oh, and thanks for my pen and keyring!

  2. Very nice looking and specced trophy!

  3. Oh man! Thats a real presentation! Anybody would say you have the badge of Baviera cars in the brow:tonguewink::tonguewink: Just joking. I´s sure you´ll enjoy that Trophy a lot, is an amazing car and you´ll make an effort to many people with expensive cars on track. The Trophys Ph1 are my favourites, unluckyly cames only 25 to Spain.
Welcome and really good pic BTW!!

  4. Decent.

  5. Great write up, I agree the noise my 200 used to make at full chat is akin to a banshee screaming - nape tingling indeed!

  8. I wasn’t sure when I bought the car if it would be too much for ‘everyday’ but it’s absolutely fine and feels great to shift

  9. Yes mines a daily too. Excellent motors for daily fun

  10. Love that!

You still got the Clio? I have similar feelings, I've had loads of Clio's before the meg, the MK3 is rewarding in chasing the redline - being turbod the meg doesn't quite have the same feeling

  11. Clio has gone to my cousin so at least it’s in the family. I have first refusal as well

The best way to describe it is I miss the cheeky-ness of the Clio. It was a little buzz box that was hilarious whenever I drove anyway. The Meg you have to respect a lot more - decide when it’s appropriate to use it’s huge Arsenal

and the sound. The Meg sounds angry but the Clio was delicious the whole way to 7k+
