TPMS woes on my megane 225. I had the rear two sensors replaced and the front two weren't responding. I decided to cut my losses and have the system turned off. The bloke that did it said that for some reason it wouldn't turn off?! I know nothing about can clip or how it works but now I have all four wheels missing on my little car picture on the dash, I presume he's deleted them? Can I get them back? He said ( I don't know why) that even if I replace the remaining sensors that I will still have the TPMS warning on my dash? Can anyone help or explain a bit more. Cheers. I should also mention that hes a 15 year time served Renault dealership mechanic and was using the genuine Renault Can Clip (?!) equipment. Thanks.
My car does not have the wheels in the pic but I assume it will add them or say something should the tyres have a problem. A clip is basically a resister that closes a circuit, you then plug in and change the settings telling the car that the system does not exist so it does not display a fault.
Thanks for the help mate. I should add that the TPMS fault is still showing on the top section of the display and that the 2 wheels that had the new sensors were showing before. Now I just have a body of a car with no wheels showing haha. That bit doesnt bother me though to be honest, I just want to know if the mechanic was right and that for some reason I will never get rid of my TPMS fault - being over-dramatic I know. I just like to have all of my cars in MOT worthy condition all of the time. I know that the TPMS fault is a fail - so its bugging me. In fact, he also told me that the airbag and engine management bulbs had been removed so Im expecting further dramas once I get the TPMS turned off haha.
I had an issue with my tpms.. Snapped a valve etc.. Took my car to the local main dealer, they charged me £45 to turn it off. Only took 2 mins. That was about 3 months ago.. Mine has been fine ever since, shows all 4 wheels in the display as if there is nothing wrong? Maybe worth a tip to a dealer for that price?
Thanks for the help again. It all sounds very good and like they will be able to turn it off. I think the thing that worried me was that he said someone had already been into the system, I just didn't know if they could change any codes or anything.
If someone had already been into your system all they would have been able to do is change pre determined settings. Ie tyre pressure monitors on or off, side airbags on or off. This is allowed so that depending in the spec of the car they can be set accordingly, not all cars will have TPMS. To do any serious damage they would have to change the firm wear which will be very difficult and if they had ur car would be having a break down and going no wear
