I have a teardrop caravan and currently forced to tow it with the wife's Clio Expression (1150) due to my RS265 not being able to tow :/ Now I love my RS265 but really want a performance car over 200bhp that I can have fun with but can tow an unbraked caravan of 450kg... Ideas? The Clio RS can't tow either :/ don't know why as the exhaust isn't central etc...
See your problem here is starting to tow in the first place. Then you've mentioned a caravan.. I'd just sell it and use the money to drive somewhere fast and pay for accommodation. Or get something big and heavy. They're good for towing, but then you've got to fuel it. A V8 Range Rover Sport will see you good.
It's why I have a teardrop - caravan but not, I attend and help display birds of prey at county fairs and its better in my teardrop than under canvas http://www.teardroptrailers.co.uk/1500.html but trying to find a sporty vehicle that's not 'tank' size is becoming an issue - even the Jeep won't tow much unbraked, its because manufacturers are not spending the money to test the vehicle chassis under the EU directive :/ Why you can tow using an 1150 clio and not the RS is beyond me.... Surely same chassis, suspension is sim etc etc?
