Hi guys. Joined a couple of weeks ago as I was looking at selling up my 172. I have always been a Renault head having owned: - 2x 1.2 16v dynamiques - Renault Clio 1.8 16v (valver) with Williams engine - Renault Clio 172 After having these I thought it was time for something a little bigger and a little more powerful. So what better idea than another Renault. Having heard great reviews everywhere about the r26 I thought id try one. And I love it. Needs a bit of work but picked it up off a guy off this forum who looked after it and had a lot of money spent on it. Here are some pictures for now. Also does anyone know how much a second hand r26-r genuine carbon bonnet would be. Cheers guys.
Hi welcome along , you'll be lucky to get one second hand , around £700 new , look well on That though
Welcome to the forum mate ! Lovely car , I upgraded to the R26 too! But mine needed alot more work but they are ace to drive great car
It's a lad called jphud off here. Really genuine guy. It's just I have one but I'm unsure about putting it on as the heat of the engine will probably de colour the carbon.
Update. Had the car for a bit now. Absolutely love the thing. Added a few bits. Has the forge hard pipe kit. Also added a front mounted intercooler. And a ram air filter. Had it on the rollers at efi parts the other week and it made a nice 234bhp which I'm happy with for now. Few pictures of how it looks at the moment. Had full brake discs and pads all round. Ds2500 pads and brembo hc front disks and standard r26 driller rears. And of course some new ps3 tyres.
Front end is a little stone chipped as you would expect but for a 8 year old car the paintwork comes up really well.
Gave the car a good snow foam yesterday. Hopefully the decat should come next week. Then its off to get mapped.
Decat came the other week from the group buy kindly organised by boardy one here. So got that and wrapped it up. Had some spacers arrive today Before And after Looks miles better now. 20mm rear and 5mm front. Car is booked in for mapping on the 10th September at a place called Unicorn developments. I know people swear by rs tuning. I feel I want to go against the grain. So far the customer service has been spot on. So I'm excited to see the results and I'm hoping we can have another respected mapper to add to the list. Rick at Unicorn is very well know in the vag scene and get regular mentions in the vag magaxines etc. He also has experience in mapping many cars for map tweeks from rs tuning as well as mapping a few 250s when they first came out.
Hi Tom any better pics of the wheel spacers? where did you get them from how much etc? Where are unicorn based? I'll be curious to see how you get on there. I think that's the one Boardy was talking about last week. ps I can't read VAG without thinking of something different
No better pictures of the wheel spacers I'm afraid. Unicorn are based in Stockport. Nothing but amazing reviews from the people who have had their cars mapped there. A few of my mates have had their cars mapped including a golf r mk7.
Got the decat fitted by a top friend of mine yesterday. He made it look easy. Anyone in the north west wanting their decats fitted or any little jobs on their meganes drop me a message and I can get you in touch with him. A little assistance by the main man Boardy. He makes lifting up the front end of the Meg look easy! Difference is massive and the decat defo gives off a nicer noise at the rear. In the car there is no difference at all. Car feels smoother and more open. Gives off a nicer note when accelerating.
Good luck with it mate. I'd soak the bolts over night to make them easier to get off. Mine were OK but when my mate came tondo his he had a little trouble with getting some off.
Yeah that's me plan buddy I've got some gas torches incase there tight. I guess ya removed o/s drive shaft to do it. Did it take long. Also having injectors cleaned tomorrow as well. Hoping it'll sound nice as already got miltek cat back on but it's a little quite and want some popping and banging ha
Took about 3 hours all together. Pretty much everything on the o/s of the car including lower engine mount then just needs some good rocking of the engine. To squeeze cat out. Will defo pop and bang as mine wants to do it but I have standard exhaust with silencer and back box still in place.
Needed a good clean. As I'm getting bored waiting for the map. Thought I'd spend some time on it. Snow foam prewash. Bucket shampoo. Poor boys polish Dodo juice wax.
Looks lovely that mate fair play. What size wheel spacers did you go for and where did you get them from? Cheers, Kris
Thanks matey. I do love it. 20mm rear. And 5mm front. Unsure on make as I bought off Glen Patterson off here second hand. But I'm guessing they are the bimmec ones or the eibach ones. Try ebay. They aren't the cheapest.
did the 5mm at the front make any difference to the looks Tom and was there any difference to handling? I have the 20s on the back but not sure whether to bother with the fronts
If I'm 100% honset mate I wouldn't bother. Not noticed any difference at all. Good or bad. Can't see any difference either. I'd say save your money.
Big update time as I haven't been on here for a while. I have pretty much become very fond of this car using it everyday and enjoying every second of it. I decided to take the car to the track as that is pretty much what they are built for. Got the car all ready and checked over and a huge refresh to the front end with engine mounts, new full steering rack, drop links, hub bearings etc etc. First up was Anglesey for my first every track day. Awesome awesome track. Been a few times now but never had the chance or the money to get on with my car at the time. Spent hours and hours doing lap after lap. Was last on the track at the end of the day with the track all to myself as I was enjoying it all too much. Rain, sun, dry, damp the car performed perfectly. After that was aintree. Then Oulton followed by 3 sisters in Wigan. Few photos from the track days/sessions Oulton Aintree 3 sisters Anglesey With regards to modifications since. The car is now on a 250 turbo with suited mods such as ktec 3inch cat back. Currently at 307bhp and 306lbft. At one point before mapping after the exhaust the torque was peaking at 348lbft on standard block so had that taken down a little before things got hairy! Thank you mate. I think this is my favourite of the track photos so far! Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
