Hi Guys, I love my Meg but sometimes i wonder what its made of! Whilst putting my car into reverse the silver plastic surround at the bottom sheared off and as the fixing lugs have snapped off i cannot re fit it. Is this a common issue, seems a bit odd?! Like the gaiter is not stretchy enough to cope with the reach of the gear throw. Does anyone know a quick fix or do i have to order a whole new surround or gaiter or both?! Many thanks, Tom
Probably. I think it's one of those things that when it happens once, it'll keep happening. Renault gaitor surrounds have always been crap, especially when removed.
I'd be interested in a price for a new knob as well as surround as mine is original and getting a bit worn.
No mate, all original and never been touched! It was very cold when it snapped off. Perhaps the fabric had shrunk?
French cheese is my best guess. My old man's car has a wooden chassis and seems to need less TLC than the Megane.
Thanks, wow the polished Aluminium know is cheaper that that!! Does the price for the Surround include the gaiter? Who do you work for?
Ads Do you know if they can only get black surrounds now? Someone in out parts said they discontinued the silvers?
It's better to get a used one painted. I'm glad mine is pretty secure - Ads knows how much a replacement Trophy one would cost! Even if they're actually available any more that is!
I've put 2 screws through the plastic ring at 3 and 9 o'clock, very small black ones. A bit bodge but looks decent and holds super.
