Timing Belt DIY?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Stock265cup, Sep 7, 2019.

  1. Car is due Timing belt and all other associated work at some point this winter. Question is how difficult is this to do yourself? Would be working on Driveway with the car jacked up/Axle Stands. How long does job take? I have changed cam belts before and my Dad knows what he is doing when it comes to engines. Or should I just save the hassle and pay someone to do it?

if you are asking then send it to someone that has done them before, it's a bit of a nightmare when i do mine i pull the engine out, well on the mk2 i did, it's doable but is very tight in there.
There is also a timing kit you need and that's not cheap.

  3. As expected, will pay to get it done. Cheers.

It's just if you get it wrong it's going to cost you a lot lot more.

  5. There is quite a bit of advise on how to replace the timing belt in this youtube post, worth a look I think:
