250 Time for new rear brake disks?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by scoobyr, Aug 28, 2014.

  1. When I washed my car at the weekend, noticed one of the rear disks had a big groove/line right the way round, only appeared this last week or so.

I had new pads all round in May, feels fine to drive at the moment.

Any input from the more mechanically minded much appreciated....

  2. Probably something was caught between the pads and the disk, or something that unsettled from the grooves in the disk. If it is not noticeable into the disc itself (if you go over it with your finger and you can't feel a groove into the metal), it should be just fine. I would drive around some to see if it clears up as its probably something superficial.

I had a very small stone once between the pads and the discs after cleaning, and left a very slight groove in my disc. Took some time, but it settled itself just fine.

Ideally you'd remove the pads to see if there's nothing significant stuck in there, but that's a bit of a job if you're not mechanically minded

  3. Thanks TymenJ

Must admit I haven't used it much this past week, maybe a spirited drive will help sort it out
