Hi, I have a 2012 265 Cup. My near side tie rod end needs replacing and it looks like a pretty easy job that I’m willing to take on myself. For anyone whose done one on this car before is it as simple as cracking the nut loose on the inner tie rod, removing the nut that connects it to the knuckle and screwing off the old end then repeating the same process in reverse? I know I need to keep stuff as close as possible to where it was and get an alignment after. The job looks easy enough just a bit nervous because I haven’t done it before, and I’m assuming the hardest bit will be removing the old rusted on bolts. Any advice appreciated, Thanks
Just what you said. Brush the threads or spray with plusgas/wd40 if they are rusty before trying to remove the nuts. Remove the nut and crack the ball joint, loosen the lock nut on the arm and twist off the tie rod end. Measure the length before removal or tape the lock nut in the position it was in before you backed it off, so that when you screw the new tie rod end on, it is in the same position - assuming the new arm is identical. Fit a new nut on the new tie rod ball joint and tighten the lock nut back up. Just painted my new tie rods today so that they will hopefully stay looking nicer for longer.
