Thoughts on dodo juice?

Discussion in 'Detailing' started by Matt-Rallye, Mar 11, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

Due to my car being a daily i dont tend to keep it immaculate but i like it it be as good as can be expected for a car that does over 600 miles a week.

Im no stranger too detailing and am always looking to try new products, i have noticed my usual meguiars polish doesnt seem to really bring out the beautiful colour of my meggy so im looking around and dodo juice seems to be well received and recommended.

So if anyone has any reviews / experience they would like to share please take to the podium!

    Thanks
    Matt

  2. Not a fan personally. I find them all gimmicky and the waxes last around 10 minutes! The protection is shocking. If you want something that just works and does the job, for me you can't beat some good old autoglym super resin followed by some finishkare 1000p high temp sealant. It just works.

ive tried quite a few dodo products now and I find them a right pain to work with. You struggle buffing half of them and I genuinely find they add no depth to the colour.

    Just my two pence!

  3. Didn't find it lasted at all, last time I used some of their wax.

  4. I've used a few DoDo products over the years, some OK, some pretty good but for some reason, nothing of theirs have ever blown me away, I don't know why to be honest, just down to personal taste I guess.

What I will say is that, last couple of years I've really learnt that it's all in the preparation, you can have the best wax/sealant in the world but if the paint isn't prepped properly it won't look that great. Maybe I should give it another go, I've got a pretty much full pot of Rainforest Rub in the cupboard that I've only used once!

  5. Used their purple haze on my last car and thought it was good, use to bead really well but I guess that was due to putting a coat on every week.

My go to wax is collinite 467 brilliant all rounder and for under £20 it's a steal

  6. Cheers for the feedback fellas.

Ive always been a fan of Autoglym products, gave the meggy the once over last sunday with some ph-neutral steve adams wash, 2 coats of SRP followed by a coat of UDS. then tried some dodo juice purple haze on the bonnet & roof (didnt get the chance to do full car) and finally sealed it with some AG Ultra Gloss Protection. inside got the deep hoover treatment along with all plastics G101'd. Few bits got the plastic protect treatment (despise over shiny dashboards) and the leather saw the AutoSmart leather care balm.

Been thinking more and more about investing in some dodo juice hard wax (Hard candy in my instance) and also maybe investing in a supernatural claybar kit as was pointed out 99% of the finish is in the prep

    Thanks again
    Matt

  7. I have just started using shining monkey products. Wash and wax only so far. Next week hopefully colour restore wax the car. No complaints so far.

  8. +1 on the Collinite. Good beading & lasts long.

I tried Dodo Juice a few times, but I didn't like it. Prefer stuff like AutoFinesse which is infinitely better.

  10. See i tried the auto finesse and was completely unimpressed with it! certainly wouldnt rate it above autoglym which is the standards im aiming to beat

  11. I have some dodojuice limited edition stuff. It has some mega long weird name. It gives a fantastic shine and lasts well ( always one isnt there ?! )

  12. Acrylic spritz is the best spray wax out there hands down. Their other stuff is okay.

  13. It doesnt give 12 months protection but it is pretty good. Smells disgusting too. I like it though.

Thats a sealant and i wouldn't say it is the best out there, Many many other spray sealants that offer the same performance and many more than offer better.

  15. How long does it actually last? 3-4 months?

  16. Yeah, I reapplied it after about 4 months. That's when it was just starting to look like it was not protecting as well as it had been.

  17. I suppose much like brakes and tyres there no defined way of scoring these products and it's more down to personal choice and opinion. Yours just happens to be wrong :tongueout:

    LOL!

True, there are products that people rave about but I don't. All down to the individual as with everything

  19. I use purple haze (soft) on the Clio and I think it's alright, not as good or easy to use as the Autoglym HD wax I use on the meg but will last 5 months with every day use and only washing every 2-3 weeks

  20. Dodo stuff is nothing special IMHO. I'd recommend the fk1000p or fusso soft 99 options for far better protection . Then after future washes use sonax brilliant shine detailer and you have a winning combo and superb beading and looks. Plus all the above options are super easy to use . Why not add autobrite hellshine ghost rider windscreen sealant too as the easiest glass beading treatment .

  21. Personally like dodo juice stuff. I regularly use their shampoos find them to be the best for me.

  22. If you're doing that mileage then IMO spending the time applying waxes is a bit pointless. I've used Gtechniq C2v3 sealant for 2 years now and it's superb, you can do a whole car including glass in 10 minutes and even with your mileage it will last a couple of months, longer if you dilute some down 5-1 and use it as a drying aid as it will keep topping up the protection.

Doesn't smear, buffs straight off and leaves a really glossy finish as well as the surface feeling like glass. I've also got Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer that is highly rated on detailing world, but I find it a bit grabby to apply and doesnt leave the paint anywhere near as slick as C2v3. It does bead awesomely though.

  23. I love c2v3, Bsd and reload best combo I have tried is Bsd mixed with odk entourage or spsd v3 50:50 slick, glossy and awesome beads. C2v3 with Bsd is also a great combo

  24. To be honest I have a number of Dodo Juice products but it's definitely style over substance. Admittedly some of their stuff is nice to use and it smells nice but there's cheaper out there for the money.

A friend of mine used to be an authorised retailer for Dodo Juice so I have seen the unit prices compared to the RRP and there is a shed load of money to be made. I bought a pot of Supernatural Wax for £20 less than the retail price and I think that was still £5 or so in my mates pocket. The mark ups are mental, obviously bumping up prices of products is commonplace with any industry, especially to create a luxury brand but when you see it first hand it puts you off a bit.

Also, I've bought waxes from £5 a pot upwards and found that a bottle of Collinite 845 at £20 is a bargain that will outlast most Dodo Juice stuff.

My conclusion on it is that it's fun, they have some nice products but it's expensive and there's as good out there for a lot less money. I get the impression from many 'detailers' on forums that with Dodo Juice it's about collecting the whole set rather than the worth of the products, like grown up Pokemon cards!!

  25. Dodo juice products all do the job. However, there are better products for less money.

  26. Thanks for all the feedback guys! Seems to be a very mixed view so i think i'll try a few panel pots of the waxes im looking at before i start spending retail on it as it does seem abit pricey.

  27. It is old school mate. Each to their own but I've now moved away from waxes as sealant technology is much more impressive now. Try fk100p or sonax brilliant shine and see what you think. So easy to use and way better protection too

  28. After visiting the dodo juice stand at ultimate dubs yesterday i have invested in some supernatural hybrid wax. Shall report results this weekend!

Many thanks for all the feedback.

  29. I'd say hybrid is their best product so good job

  30. Cheers fella. tried a test panel (bonnet) and it is clearly an excellent product! Really keen to spend the weekend on it, probably give it a tardis and clay treatment too before a few layers of polish and then try the whole car with the supernatural hybrid

  31. That's a good point, last few years I've used mainly Werkstatt prime/acrylic or Auto Finesse Tough Coat rather than waxes and plan to try some Gyeon soon as well. But recently I've gone back to using waxes, just for a change as much as anything, I love Auto Finesse Illusion, best my car has ever looked with this on, durability isn't great as it's a show wax, but I've found the finish stunning....

  32. I've been detailing for years and have sunk £tonnes into the 'perfect finish' and, after sitting myself down and stopping for a moment, realised that the prep really is the key.

Once you've achieved 95% correction via machine polishing I think most LSP's are extremely similar looking - ironically, however, where I can detect a difference is sealants.

If you try Zaino or Autopia's Ultima on a fully prepped car they really add to the sharpness of the shine and almost look like another layer of clear coat is on there.

I've tried loads of waxes, from £10 to £1000 and they all look similar IMHO.

So, for me, the deciding factor now is protection, ease of use and cost.

The staple product list now is:

    - Sonax BSD
    - Finishkare FK1000P
    - Zaino
    - Fusso Soft 99

The top 3 are foolproof and work in the sun, the shade etc with no bother.

Fusso's my latest, which I bought due to the web hype, and must admit the protection and finish is amazing - but compared to the top 3 is PITA to work with (all things being relative)

  33. Whats the pain about Fusso as thats next on my list to try.

I love fk1000p for my wheels, but i find it quite dusty tbh when your buffing it off which i find a pain. Thats why i rarely use it for the bodywork unless its for a winter prep

  34. Fusso is similar to fk . If thickly applied dusts and isn't as easy to remove. As it is softer it is harder to get a small amount like you can fk
