I'm no mechanic but what does it mean for my car when I can't down shift from 5th to 6th . If at 50mph I try to go into 5th I can't find it, no grinding etc just nothing there. I'd say 4/5 Times it won't go and even when it does it mostly forced.
sounds as if the bulk ring has been damaged, my sixth gear jumps out when its put under load, gearbox is stripped and the gear and hub is damaged, new gear required

Well Renault have confirmed the fault and said it's £2650, new gearbox. :~( But as the car is only 2 months out of manufacturers Warranty they have said they will contribute to the cost to bring it to "about £800". RAC warranty I paid for want the gearbox removed so they can check it and then decide if they will pay for it but then they will only cover 50% of Renault's labour cost which means even if I get it done under warranty I still end up with a big bill...... Currently waiting on Renault to forward the costs / details to Carbase where I bought the car to see what they wan't to do as I've only had it 2 weeks.
Push for a bigger discount from Renault. To be honest £800 isnt too bad for new gearbox including labour. Strip and rebuild by an indie would be about the same.
yeah that's what Renault said, they could just repair the Synchromesh but it would cost the same due to the labour time stripping the current box. They never sent the info either so I need to get onto them again.
Agreed free or return, money back not fit for purpose. Not of merchantable quality Depends how you feel. AA, RAC, Trading standard,s Which, Free Legal advise on insurance policy will all help advise. Best wishes Andy
I had to have a replacement gearbox for my 250 after 38k miles. They offered to pay 80% and I ended up paying £650.00......a lot better than the £3,250 which was the original quote!
to my surprise it could still be a little while, Renault have said they have no stock anywhere of this gearbox so it's on back order... ...oh well it drives okay.
this dosnt look good for us 250 owners, i wounder if renault changed something on the 265/275's to rectify these problems?
Tell you I'm confused local mechanic says gearbox and rd specialist this afternoon reckons it's noise from my worn front tyres
