The want of a new car.

  1. Bit of a strange one this. A lot of mates have recently swapped in their old machines for some very tasty stuff. Which is massively making me want to change, however this megane is a certain keeper! I've had it three years now and never done a thing to it. What can I do to make it feel newish again? Any ideas?

First at thing is I'm going to change the gearknob for the RS one.

  2. I'm in the same boat mate , had my R26 3 years now and it's fully paid off next month So it'll be all mine and more free cash to spend on parts. Thing is I've kinda not enjoyed it that much recently so thought it may be better to put the money toward a new car such as the nice white 265 in Manchester Renault. It's been a dilemma but I've decided to keep it for at least till next spring. what I have been doing is giving it a full paint polish and restoration as it was looking very dull, I've also booked it in for a new clutch and other parts to hopefully give it the new feel. Hopefully I'll fall back in love with it but If it doesn't work I may be taking it to RST for a remap so you could start there.

Problem about a new car I can't find one I like more than the R26. Even went into ford and asked to test drive the new focus ST. The sales rep told me they had none but he really liked my car and told me how much he regretted selling his 225. Ok then I guess I'll keep mine lol

  3. Remap at RSTuning would make it feel like a new car.

Is that the sort of thing you're thinking?

  4. Pagey - I'll be at Renault on Saturday morning having my mate who's a mechanic there service it so I shall have a look at the 265. Can always have a run in mine seen as your in Manchester to see how it compares to your 230.

With regards to the new focus ST they are a very capable car. Although a bit dull in the way the power is delivered (it feels very flat, as most new turbo cars do but this i find to be quite obvious) it is a very good all rounder.

Xanda - I don't really fancy a map as my mate who has just last month sold his 292bhp 265 which was mapped by RST couldn't pull anything on me in any gear except fourth and mine is standard. So if I'm honest (I'm gonna get shot for this) I don't think it's worth the £££.

Im thinking along lines of DV although very chavvy, few interior bits like LEDS etc, gearknob, maybe a wheel re trim.

  5. of corse it will just because your mate didnt pull on you doesnt mean nothing. could be one of many things, could be thats yours is more powerful standard which will mean if you did get it mapped it will be even quicker than what your mates ended up as.

mid box chop and ram air cone filter? both can be done cheap, totally changes the sound of the car.

  6. I would keep it and have a map done. The R26 is a great car I love mine it is exactly what I was looking for as a daily car.
im keeping mine completely standard but has a mild map.

  7. Agree with this - makes it a different animal, having the torque come in at 2.5k instead of 3.5k is a big change

  8. Pagey - in Renault now and I've had a good look around the white 265. Not a mark on it mate. However there is an even better looking 265 15 plate doesn't have a price on it but it's on used cars sales pitch. The colour is stunning, it's not oyster grey but it's grey/silver/blue! Stunning!

  9. It's a little bit lighter than the red bull edition!

  10. I've seen that blue grey car and it's v nice but I think it's one of the sales managers , Itll be up for sale soon no doubt.

Wont be be able to make it down there, I've still got 2 doors 2 arch panels and a front bumper to machine polish yet.
