Hello all. I've just sold my car and now fancy an R26 Megane. I do the occasional track day, I've seen these things on track and they really seem to shift. I'm based in the West Midlands and will now be on the look out for the right one. The wife is treating me to a weekend out in Birmingham so that might be a good opportunity to buy one as there are hundreds of car dealers there, fingers crossed. I look forward to maybe meeting a few of you, no doubt this forum has meets. Cheers, Pete.
Welcome mate - Most things are touched on in this thread...http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread....for-when-buying-a-R26!&highlight=buying+guide Standard stuff apart from that, just makes sure the belts have been done by a specialist is what I would say. Great choice btw haha
Hi Pete - welcome along mate. Re the wife taking you to Brum - does she not like you? Re the guide, to be honest, I don't think the site has an 'offical' one, and that's not good really. I've had a couple of mk2 Meganes (R26 & 1.6 16v) so if I can be of any help directly I will do my best if you have any specific questions. The R26 is a great performance car for the money and I'm sure you'll enjoy yours; good luck buddy.
Thanks for the warm welcome. That link is helpful, they all seem to be fairly standard things to look out for. The challenge is to buy one and have it ready for Anglesey in April.
Very interested, when you have some details let me know. South Yorkshire isn't a million miles away from me.
The hunt is over: It is a completely different beast to my old mid engined rear wheel drive car. In the old car the perfect corner consisted of trail braking into the apex, come off the brake pedal and cover the throttle then gently ease the power back on whilst returning the steering wheel back to centre, as you clear the exit of the corner you should be back to full throttle. In the Megane it consists of pointing the front wheels in the direction you want to go, press throttle, job done. It is great fun, a really easy car to drive quickly. So far I am a very happy boy.
Thanks for the comments, hopefully I'll get to meet a few of you. My plan is to organize a cruise at some point, I went on loads of them when I had the VX. It is a really nice way to meet like minded people.
