I'm going to be fitting an Oil Temperature Gauge soon, and obviously it will need to be wired in to power it. I was just wondering, what is the best way to test for/find a switched live wire? So that the gauge comes on with the ignition. Is it just a case of stripping a little bit of wire, testing it and covering it back up until I find the one I need? Or is there a better way of doing it? Is there a wiring diagram available which would tell me which wire I could use? I did search on here, but didn't find anything useful. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
The switched live for the radio would be a good guess I'd think as these are usually colour coded - splice off that.
I guess the mk2 has an internal fuse box too in the cabin. Use a fuse tap, you just need a multimeter to check for an existing circuit that is ignition live and then use a fuse tap on that. That way you don't have to cut into or modify any part of the existing wiring and you create a seperate and properly fused circuit.
I use the cigarette lighter socket to power my gauges, from my point of view simply enough. you can access the wires underneath it easily.
I've never heard of a fuse tap, will definitely have a look into that. Good call on the radio feed, don't know why I didn't think of that. I've got an aftermarket head unit already, so there might be a spare bullet connector I could use. Does anyone one know if there are wiring diagrams available? Would a Haynes manual for the normal megane be of any use?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Add-A-C...use-Holder-ATM-APM-12v-24v-volt-/180735824927 Dead easy to use, two fuses, one for your old circuit and one for your new one and you have a new 12v feed. Just make sure you use a fuse of the appropriate rating (like I used a 3 amp for two dash cams, both use max of 1 amp or so being primarily usb). Not sure about mk2s but I gave up trying to find any decent information on the electrics, even the workshop manual I have is crap.
Cheers for the info, just tried the link and it says the listing doesn't exist? Edit: Link works fine now!
