Temporary fix on engine mounts

  1. Have since replaced the upper torque dogbone mount and installed powerflex inserts on the other mounts.

Engine mounts started to fail badly and funds were unavailable at the time to purchase new ones. So out came the jigsaw, carpet knife, contact glue and some ingenuity.

Had a pilot sport 3 front bike tyre in the garage. Cut some inserts and glued them in place with contact glue.

For the dogbone link I had to first cut the end of one side flush. Then used a hole saw to cut 3 circles in the tyres. Shaped them a bit with the knife and pressed them into the mount. Cleaned the sleeve and pressed it through. Finally screwed in 2 woodscrews into the sides where the movement on the mount is minimal.

This fix was in the car for 2 months and when I got the Powerflex inserts they were still as good as when I made the inserts, even the torque link (now replaced).

Tbh I can only feel a slight increase in rigidity since I fitted the powerflex inserts. The lower mount must still be replaced, but rebuilding the basic suspension components so wallet says it'll have to wait a bit.
