Suspension kit and brakes

  1. Morning all,

Looking at getting a fast road set up for my 225.

Suspension and some new discs and pads. Keeping the standard mk1 wheels for now so no need for drilled or grooved unless it adds more than just aesthetics.

Also is it worth me getting anything on the steering rack checked/replaced?

  2. All comes down to budget but brakes wise can't go wrong with new Brembo High Carbon discs, with Mintex M1144 pads.

Suspension, standard stuff is good enough for fast road as long as its in good nick.

Swivel bearings can seize on Mk2 megs and 225's will be old enough to have this problem so its worth checking those. If they are stiff and have been for a while then they can start to put strain on and wear track rod ends too.

Also worth checking the lower arms - They have balljoints and rubber bushes which when worn can cause the car to wander a bit under power and feel a bit vague.

  3. Yes they have a bush at the end of the rack on the passenger side just before the rack connects to the inner axial joint.

This can be changed out for a poly one if yours are worn. Obviously if it's worn changing it will be a marked improvement.

I changed mine for a trackfocusdirect one and found no difference even though the car had 135k on it.

  4. Hi Im new to the megane world I have a mk3 250 rs cup.

I need new discs and pads all round.

I will be doing a few track days and going to the Ring

Where is the recommended place to get discs and pads please ?

  5. Have a look at:

    KAM Racing
    KTEC Racing
    Godspeed Brakes

All will have the bits new need - I have heard about KTEC grooved discs cracking though so i'd stick to Godspeed or Brembo HC discs.

The Mintex M1144 pad are great on the road but aren't really up to proper track use - I'd go for Ferodo DS1.11 pads for trackdays with Brembo HC discs.

  6. Thank you for your reply, in the past Ive used PFC Z rated pads in the Brembos of my other car, any thoughts?
Do you know the disc diameter please?

  7. Sorry, never used those myself.

My car is a Mk2 and discs are 312mm I think, but the Mk3 has bigger discs.

  8. Z-rated are a very good compromise for mixed road/track work. Not quite as good as some hotter pads on track but none of the downsides. They're near perfect at the Ring where the long straights can cool brakes too much. They even survived Bedford. Good fluid crucial though like RBF600 as the added heat will make that the next weak point.

  9. I dont suppose you would know if they are the same pads as a Subaru impreza WR1 as they have Brembos also ?
Ive also got PFC 08 for track work.

  10. Hiya. They are rarely listed as Megane RS but usually for EVO 6-9 or some Scooby indeed using the same caliper as our cars.
PFC ref is 1001-11. Fronts only, no rears available (OE or cheapo Brembo will do).
If you google "PFC 1001.11" they come up.
This is for MK3, not sure if available or compatible with MK2 calipers.
