Suspension Feeling Weird

  1. Howzit guys,

been on a mission to fix every little thing on my Meg....

so most recently was the gearbox mount which was worn a bit... the middle part where the bolt goes through was worn so the hole looked more oblong than circular.. so replaced it... less vibration and rattle but not quite there. yet...

thought that would sort the cars road feel... so since the Drive to a recent Gymkhana event in Johannesburg i noticed that when i hit a bump or unevened re-tarred surface the car feels as it bounces off to the sides... almost as if the shell of the car is moving in another direction and the axle/chasis is going straight... so in other words top half feels like its loose.. like the carriage is not moving together with the axle/frame as its supposed to.. am i right in saying your shocks absorbe the road bump and uneveness.. and keep you in somewhat of a levelled position... my car feels level but when it hits those bumps... its like a jiggle to the side.... thought the gearbox was moving and causing the jiggle but wasnt the gearbox mount... so must be something else.

so this is what i think can be the problems...

    1. Subframe loose.
    2. Shocks are worn.... but doubt it.. as they were checked when i put on the 18's..
    3. some other mounting is bust...
    4. tie rod/rack ends
    5. drop links or Anti-rotation link... dunno if thats the same thing....
    6. Bushes on the suspension
    7. Shock Cups.. read bout this on this forum..

think checking the subframe i can do, also the Drop links i kno are bust... i got the rattle/knock over bumps...

if anyone can shed some light on this will be greatly appreciated...

also give some tips on tightening the subframe... otherwise.. im going under the car with my trusty socket wrench and sockets and tightening everything...

    let me kno...

    Thanks in advance!!!!

  2. I'd add hub bearings to the list of possible causes.

  3. Considering the gearbox mount was worn, have you looked at engine mounts?

  4. Snapped/cracked spring maybe?

  5. Gonna check the rest if the mounts... Will also check shocks and springs tomorrow...
