Will be doing a road trip up the west coast of Scotland in August (presuming that's OK with Nicola), was meant to be going to the Belgium Gp. Just after a heads up on where I can get some decent fuel? Doesn't appear to be any Shell garages that way. Going to fill up at the Shell garage in Stirling and then will be heading through the Trossachs and north from there. Any local knowledge would be appreciated, cheers.
Not many options really once you leave the central belt and head north. Tesco In Stirling has momentum. BP in Fort William has super then that's you until Ullapool or Thurso. Plenty normal fuel stations though so take some octane booster but unless your running some big power, built Megane normal fuel is probably fine. Just keep your tank topped up once you fill it with super
My mate has been up that way a few times so he is planning the route. Any suggestions would be more than welcome though. Hoping for dry weather and not too many midges!
How long you up for? Loads and loads of routes off the "main" nc500 to be fair. If you are heading up via Glen Coe then you need to do the Loch Leven loop down into Kinlochleven then back up the other side of the Loch. One of the best roads in Scotland by far
Is the NC500 worth it? Be considering doing it for a couple of years, was supposed to do last year with a mate but didn’t happen.
Probably 4 days. Thinking of camping at Applecross and using that as a base. Not enough time to do the full Nc500 but enough to check out quite a bit of it. Will check out the Loch Leven loop in the way up, cheers.
Plenty of time to do the main loop tbf, Can do it easily enough in 2 days but you don't really get to see much then lol. We are doing a 3 day thing, around 200-220 miles a day
Yeah we are starting midweek as well, The remainder of this year is going to be pretty to be fair. Never stayed at Applecross myself, We are Basing out of Ullapool as it's a bit further up and means you can manage all the route from there on day trips
Inverness has Shell V-Power and Tesco Momentum. Further north, you won't find 99 except for Tesco in Wick. 97 is available at Gleaner stations at Kyle of Lochalsh near the Skye bridge, and Ullapool. Best to bring some octane booster. Agree that some of the best roads are not on the NC500 - if you're there to drive, forget about the northeast section of the NC500, and instead take the single-track from Tongue to Lairg and the old Military Road A939/A93 from Grantown to Blairgowrie through the Cairngorms.
Booked a camping cabin at Applecross, good price to be fair. Means I don't have to set the tent up either, can get to the pub earlier! Hope you get dry weather for your trip.
