Hi, I just purchased a 275 with the liquid yellow pricey paint. I am thinking of covering the front with a transparent wrap to protect it from stone chippings? Has anyone done that? any thoughts as to how much it would cost? Tony
Not on the Megane. But some other cars. If you want a nice rather thick & protective vinyl, it can be fairly expensive. Depending on the size (how much you'd want to cover), I would not be surprised to not get much change of £1k.
I am afraid I wouldn't really know. The reason I went for the expensive stuff was that a friend had a simpler/cheaper clear vinyl on this GT3 which didn't help with stone chips at all. The stuff I have on my car is prob 5 thicker than the normal vinyl. Appears to be quite a nightmare to work with too.
Yeah they would paint correct and prep first. I think you'd be looking at £600-1000 depending on where you go. Liquid yellow is hard to colour match too which makes re painting a pain for some body shops
Car is still clean so no need to repaint. Just need some partial protection in the "at risk" areas: front bumper, half of the bonnet and sides. Surely less than £600, no?
The cheap stuff you apply yourself isn't worth having, and the quality stuff needs professionally applying and costs easily 4 figures I believe. I came to the conclusion shortly after getting the Trophy that it would just have millions of stone chips, which it now has. Even the wheels are covered - all of them. Windscreen is the same. It does fix a slight OCD issue I had with detailing cars though; it will never be as good as when I drove it out of the showroom so what's the point! Entropy will always increase. It sits dirty most of the time now....
I know Stephen with the silly fast yellow R26 had the front bumper and half of his bonnet done for £500. That was for the ppf alone. People pay upwards of 4k to have their whole car done but is it worth spending loads of money on those kinds of things. They'll get chips and dings but just have it sprayed and made nice again every few years. I'm super OCD and had a quote of 700 to have the car detailed to a perfect finish and super hard ceramic coating applied but at the end of the day I can get so many bits for the car for that money. I machined it myself and applied an off the shelf ceramic coating and I'm more than happy with the results!
