R26 Steering wheel options

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by adbett, May 20, 2017.

  1. Struggling a bit to get a good position in the R26r, if the seat is further back it's right for my legs but a slight stretch for my arms....and vice versa if i move the seat closer

ive solved this in other cars by fitting a deeper dish aftermarket wheel - is that pretty easy to do and are there any good options people recommend?

I'm guessing i'll need to get the airbag light coded out as well

  2. Looking at options the Sabelt deep dish wheel looks the best option and fits the branding on the harnesses :-)

From what I can see online:
    - buy wheel and boss kit
    - disconncet battery for 20mins
    - remove cowling around wheel
    - remove airbag
    - remove wheel
    - fit new boss and wheel
    - Use ~4ohm resistors to remove airbag light
    - connect horn
    - connect battery

    Does that cover it?

  3. That covers it, airbag can be a bit of a pig to remove sometimes, and the dished wheel will mean the controls aren't as easy to get at

  4. Good point about the controls but hopefully will getting used to it!

Just seen a vid online from a Clio 172, does the Megane have the same Torx bolt holding the wheel on? Will need to buy a socket then as don't have one that size

  5. Not sure if it's the same size but it is a torx

  6. IMG_2460.JPG Fitted this a while ago but thought I'd post a pic. Fitted easily with the right boss and much more comfortable driving position for me.

Still deciding about the horn push, I've seen a Renault one on eBay - it's not quite the right size but I could make it work...does anyone know any other options?

Incidentally the boss kit is OMP 1960RE117A, it's listed as being for a Clio RS Sport but it was a straight swap for R26.R

    Cazper and Jamesycc like this.
  7. I'll be doing mine soon.
Did wonder if the Clio boss would be the same, just couldn't any definitive info regarding part numbers.

    Looks good.

  8. It needs a resistor as well of course but otherwise direct fit

  9. Yeah, did the same mod on my old clio cup.

Easy enough job once you get the airbag off..
