Steering vibration

  1. Hi. I get a terrible vibration through the column and wheel under breaking. I assumed it was knackered front discs causing as we're due a change. So some gen front drilled discs and pads were fitted and it hasnt changed. It's that bad from high speeds it sounds like the steering column is rattling around almost. I'm frightened it may set of the air bah sometimes. Also just has new trw track rod ends fitted as failed mot on play though this may have solved but hasn't made a bit of difference. Not had much of a nosey around any suggestions on where to be looking, anyone had similar symptoms at all?

    Thanks

  2. Have now fitted a new rack bush and inner arms to go with the track rod ends and had tracking done. Vibration still there under braking. Only 50mph and below it get quite violent. Have stripped the brakes and cleaned and re greased the pads to see if was sticking still no joy. Exactly the same as was before. Any other suggestions? Could I have warped my discs?

  4. If you have already replaced the discs and the vibration was there before and after, then warped discs doesn't sound likely. You can check if the discs are warped if you have a run out gauge by taking the wheel off and checking the run out.

Have you checked the tyres don't have any bulges or defects? Are the wheels properly balanced?

  5. New front tyres fitted around 1000 mileage ago and I'd ruled our balancing as it doesn't vibrate when accelerating to that speed only when I touch the brakes. Will see if I can get hold of a run out gauge and go from there.
