Steering rack squeak

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by ghosty0101, Aug 13, 2015.

  1. I noticed when driving home that my steering rack has started creaking when I turn the wheel to the left, it sounds like an old spring! Is there something I can grease up or is something actually wrong with it?

  2. You can grease parts of it up . . . and could also fit a TFD bush . . .

I actually have one of these spare because I left it (way) too long and had to replace the entire rack.

I paid £33 I think, you can have it for a score inc. postage if you want.

  3. I have exactly the same issue with the squeaking. I have the TFD bush installed already. I started to build 2 opinions:
    - either the bush is doing the squeak
    - either the bush is not doing anything, but I need to grease something (question is what???)
    - either the steering rack is running on borrowed time

Did anyone else had this kind of issues?

  4. Hi, has anyone else managed to fix this issue? Thanks
