Hello RS fanatics. Just been thinking about detailing the car a little (no polish till I try it on some scrap) I've come up with a few options and would like to gauge opinion. The only necessary items are sealant (for winter) and clay Ok below are the options I've found (mostly eBay) let me know what you guys think! 1) auto finesse iron out 500ml Glide 500ml Claybar 200g Oblitarate 500ml Tough coat paint sealant 250ml 2) dodo juice Born slippy 500ml Basics of bling Detailing spray 500ml Born to be mild 250ml Lime prime 250ml Finger mit Basics of bling 55g clay Blue velvet wax 30ml 2 cloths (I own a few already as we all do) 3) auto glym 250ml shampoo 325ml resin polish 325ml extra gloss protection 500ml clean wheels 500ml tyre dressing 300ml wheel protector 500ml interior shampoo 500ml fast glass 500ml vinyl and rubber care Sponge Finishing cloth Aqua dry Clay
Everyone has their favourites and there are no right and wrong answers to this! Here are a few things I've found to be better value or just better than others. Shampoo - honestly it doesn't matter, any of the ones you've listed will be fine, as will any other decent brand. Wash mitts are the same, anything from a decent brand. Iron remover - Bilt Hamber Korrosol works as well as anything else but comes in a 1L bottle so works out cheaper. Tar remover - Tardis. Clay - I use a G3 Farecla clay mitt (from Halfords but don't let that put you off!). Easier to use than a clay bar, I've seen some people say they've noticed marring with it but I haven't at all, and you're less likely to scratch your paint than you are using a clay bar incorrectly. Sealant/detailing spray - I've used Gtechniq C2v3 for the last couple of years, it's a brilliant sealant, gives a great shine, leaves the car feeling super slick and lasts a couple of months. You can use it on windows and anything shiny. Recently I've been experimenting with Sonax BSD (brilliant shine detailer) and mixing it 50/50 with the C2v3 which seems to give the best of both worlds - super slickness and crazy beading. Thinking I may be missing out by not using wax anymore I tried a sample pot of an £80 wax, it didn't look any better whatsoever than the sealant so I can't see me ever wasting time waxing a car again. It just isn't needed unless you really, really like waxing cars. Drying towels I use Gtechniq, for tyres and black trim Gtechniq T1 - it's easily the best tyre slick I've used, doesn't sling at all and a bottle just lasts ages and ages. Seats - RaceGlaze Alcantara cleaner for the centres and Gliptone leather conditioner for the leather. For the plastics I use the C2v3 diluted 1:5 with distilled water.
Wow thanks for the long write up! Interesting that some of the cheaper stuff isn't any better! I certainly won't be spending 80 quid on a wax as it's only for me and not for show! It does need a seal before winter though!
I've got fusso 99 wax, have a look on detailing world Forum as they are the pros most people swear by it and the gloss finish is brilliant and fills in some of the swirl marks. Durability is good for at least 6 months if you apply a couple of coats.
Fusso is superb, really durable and really impressive beading/sheeting from it. Had my car detailed recently and it was this used for the coming winter
I use autoglym HD wax. It's superb. One of my mates uses the soft99 (light) and says it's a nightmare to work with.
The soft 99 should be easy but only if used in the right order. A lot of people trying layering it with other products and then it becomes a nightmare. After polishing it needs to go on first before any other sealant. It can then have other products put on top if desired, if applied on top of another sealant it won't buff off properly. I've applied to both wet and dry cars and had good results from fairly rushed jobs.
