Hi Peeps, Im looking to upgrade my brakes to something suitable for track use. Now I know lots of threads surrounding track use have been done before but I cannot find a definitive thread on pads and what is best. I see Performance friction, ferodo, and the CL pads mentioned mostly. Im looking at the RC5+ pads but not sure what the standard discs can handle ? Can anyone speak from experience on what the standard grooved discs can take ? Im not really bothered about squeaky brakes, I just dont want the discs destroyed in a single session Also Im thinking of braided lines and some good fluid and then hopefully I should be good to go !
I run the RC6 compound and the discs have been faultless, 16k miles and 3 track days so you'll be fine if you choose the RC5+
I've been running RC5's for ages, over a year and the discs are fine. They'll be a bit more aggressive but not massively so.
Thanks for the replies guys, sounds like RC5's, braided lines and fluid are going to do the job nicely for occasional track use !
Been tempted to try them before but allways heard reports of dust problems and having to ironX the side of your car after using them lol Having white wheels also doesn't help
My car is white and it only gets the ironX treatment 2-3 times a year. It's not been any worse with the RC6 than it was with the oem pads. I was most worried about my wheels getting ruined so at 1st I was washing the all the time, now it can be like 3 weeks between washing and they're still perfect. It's like everything else, you'll never really know until you try because everyone has a different opinion. I wouldn't even consider buying another pad now.
The OEM paint on Renault wheels is shocking anyway, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between dust eating the paint and the normal and somewhat inevitable deterioration of the light dusting of paint they give them out of the factory. But like Mike says, I see little to no reason to use any other pad than an RC again, reasonable price, great performance, last ages. I'm not sure of a downside tbh.
Ok so I see a lot of people are using the race rc6 compound. I will be using Nankang NS2-R medium compound tyres. Will RC5+ be adequate for track use and road or are people saying rc6 is the one to go for ?
