Stage 1 remap and Clutch life.

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Scattle, Aug 12, 2013.

  1. Recently back in April had to have a new Clutch Kit and DMF (genuine Renault parts) fitted to my 225.

I was wondering how long does a Clutch and DMF last on a stage 1 remap? I don't want to get a remap and a couple of months down the line in starts slipping and need replacing again, as it is expensive.

How long have people had on their Clutches and having a stage 1?

    Thanks
    Steve

  2. It would be wrong to say that it doesn't decrease the lifespan because it does, but not by a couple of months at all, some guys have run stage 1 with the same clutch for a long time. It depends how often you blat it in first gear and do standing starts....otherwise with normal driving, it starting to slip shouldn't be an issue for a long time...

  3. It will last a good while if you drive sensible ish.

  4. Thanks Guys, big help. Was looking into the Ktec single mass flywheel as a future part if the clutch ever goes again, but put off by the apparent engine light issues.

  5. just dont gun it in first all the time or floor it in 6th at low revs.

mine was still going strong at 51k

  6. Agree with Matt, 80k + of stage 1 tomfoolery so far  that said I've started saving for a replacement as I know it's a wear and tear Item.

  7. It'll be fine as long as you don't have a touch like a rapist.

  8. Actually lol'd at that comment.

  9. How does doing that in 6th wear the clutch if you are already in gear...?

  10. I ran my 225 with a stage 1 for 3 years. Only got rid of the car because the clutch started to go (but even then I reckon it had another 12 months or so life left).

  11. Thanks for all the replies guys, has put my mind at ease! Was worried I would get it mapped and need a new Clutch 6 months down the line. Will get onto RS Tuninig I think.

  12. Most strain/load

I echo the above just don't abuse the torque as you wouldn't anyway really regardless of if it was mapped or not.

  14. Think about trying to accelerate on a bike in 21st gear, going uphill.

  15. Haha yes ben. Perfect explanation....

  16. Naturally. What I mean is, the clutch isn't engaged to the friction plate though meaning no wear technically. Although if your clutch was already on its way out it could slip in gear as it's part of the direct drive I guess. It wouldn't wear when doing a low rev pull in 6th.
I just don't see how that is possible. (:
