Over the past few days the drivers side seat has developed a feint but annoying squeak. It seems to be coming from the right hand side where the side airbag is. If I push it it replicates the noise. Is it possible to remove the rear of the seat or the airbag section to inspect it without setting it off? Tempted to go silicon spray crazy on it.
Just got an exploded drawing from a supplier so I'll see what parts if any can be moved. It looks quite modular so fingers crossed. Odinson any chance you can have a look at the new set you've just bought before you fit them mate in the meantime?
All you need to do is take the covers off and work your way around the seat. Don't apply any lube unneccesarily because that's just a bandaid. Eventually the noise will come back again, then you'll slather more lube and make a mess. From memory the screws are a Torx T20 or T25. Take the covers off and have a look for nuts and bolts, tighten one then go for a drive. For me, my main squeak was the seat belt clasp (the female side, for lack of a better description). The plastic was rubbing on the edges. I rubbed a wax candle on the offending edge and it fixed it.
Brilliant thanks for the tip. My only initial worry was removing items and accidentally setting of the side airbag. That would be even more annoying than the intermittent squeak!
Yeah I'll definitely go down that route. Failing that I'll perfect my gangster lean to the left where there's no squeaking.
I have a similar noise, perhaps a little different to yours but thought I would share just in case it is the same cause. My passenger seat makes an annoying noise and when i press the seat the noise goes away - however it is actually the seatbelt buckle/receptacle vibrating against the seat that causes the noise. If i lever the buckle forwards so it is wedged between the seat and centre console then it cant vibrate and the noise is gone.
Finally fixed! Took it to Independent Renault in rugby as it was driving me insane. Great guys there so highly recommended. They locked the airbag with a diagnostic tool, stripped the seat cover, removed the airbag and traced the squeak to wear between plastic seat back and the metal seat frame. They fitted some rubber insulator and put everything back together. Charged me an hour's labour, and I can now drive along b roads at warp speed without the sound of squeaks at every corner. Very happy!
